  1. i've been realizing something.

Walgreens(little sotre that has little of everything and a pharmacy) sells 3 6hour tapes for $5, but places like circuit city sells 100 cds for $30 before rebate.
    When u do the math,
    tapes-
    54 movies on 18 tapes for $30
    100 movies on 100 cds for $30

Cds are a lot cheaper than tapes and if u sit back and think about it, we are in a new era.
Our parents have like 200 or more vhs tapes of movies recorded on them and as for me some as far back as in the late 80s!

Can u just imagine how our children will grow up and instead of seeing old tapes with not that good of quality after so long, we have 100s and 100s of cds that we can still watch in the same quality they were when they were first made.

I had to go out and buy me another 210 case cd holder for all my movies and now I realize, it may be worth it later on down the road.

    What do u think?

(the poll choices are answered from a childs point of view)

  2. I don't think your goat offspring care about your hype of your yet unproved contention of creating 1 "lossless" quality movie per cdr.

As for the rest of the people in this forum, I doubt anyone else raises farm animals for the purpose of starting human relationships.

Ya know I would actually think that tapes will slowly be phased out, but not due to cd's but due to dvd. Not many people actually use vcd and svcd, to be honest. While I know plenty that buy and rent dvd. As soon as the dvd recorder comes down to a reasonable price you'll see tape technology disappear. DVD has already started phasing out tapes, just the way cd technology phased out audio tapes.
And if cd was going to phase out tapes they would have done it years ago when vcd was first introduced, but it never took here in the states. That's why the biggest commercial market for vcd is asia. You do know that vcd technology isn't some new technology correct?

Now if you had asked if dvd would overtake vhs, I would say a resounding yes. Will my kids remember VHS, more then likely, how well they remember is something different. They will remember it more like hey I remember dad use to put those on in the other room for us, so him and mom could watch a DVD alone.

your polls always seemed a bit biased to me, but may just be my view.

anyway, DVD WILL BE THE RULER OF THE WORLD, well at least for a brief time period. LOL.

  5. really now bbb, enough is enough. We all make mistakes, and it does not seem that sean has done anything directly to you. (correct me if I'm wrong here) Well, that is, outside of threatening your life

But besides that, what's the point of givin' the guy shit anymore?
Remember when the only way to see a movie uncut was to go to the theatre?

i think that in the future, scientists will develop a way to store data in the three spacial dimensions.

You will have chips that can hold petrabytes of data and acess it at speeds near that of light.

Silicon chips will be replaced by fiber otpic IDIE bus cables and light based computers.

I think that in the not-so-distant future, data will be stored by exciting photons in a particular type of polymer. Ever hear of the FMD? It uses a red laser to excite a multilayer-flourecscent material on a clear polycarbonate substrate. The initial prototype holds 250GB on a CD-sized disc. This might be the way we are going--you can only do so much with narrowing track pitches and pit lengths as we are doing now to get higher-capacity CD's and DVD's. This will not make CD's obsolete or forgotten, though. I am in my 20's and remember 8-track tapes and own a decent collection of vinyl records. My children will have a harder time relating to those ("wow, that's the biggest CD I have ever seen!") than with current semiconductor disc technologies.

CD sucks. Nothing beats a couple of 1210's and a box of vinyl...
