    Hi,
I usually backup my personal DVDs to avi (xvid) with Fairuse Wizard.
From DVD I also use Fairuse to create ipod mp4 movies for an ipod nano 3rd generation.
It displays only 320x240, but will accept up to 640x480 h.264 or mp4.

I have many movies already converted to avi (xvid).
I was wondering if it is possible to reencode to h.264 and ipod audio using Virtualdub which I am used to.

    thanks in advance

I have successfully used videora for my ipod conversions at highest quality 640 x nnn. The quality is as good as you can get for the limitations of the ipod. Xvid4PSP also has presets for ipods and is very configurable. It has pretty much taken over from everything but AutoGK on my system.

You can't use virtualdub because it is limited to outputting to the avi container, which is not ipod compatible.

You also might like MPEG Streamclip (free).

The other one missing from your list is Handbrake, which some regard very well, although frankly I could never get a decent encode out of.

XVID4PSP is simply awesome ... although I don't have an iPod I have used XVID4PSP for a variety of conversions but I like it for the ability to do MP4.

The best tool is imo AviDemux even though the GUI is a bit time consuming it will give you great fliexibility and control.

    The easiest is SUPER

    Hi,

    Try This:
    http://www.bandshed.net/3GP.html

Far less footprint on the system than SUPER and the other previous mentioned ones.
