I have the HV20 and about 5-6 tapes (MiniDV) of unedited footage. I would like to dump the HDV onto a hard disk, edit it in Premier CS3, and then put it back on MiniDV without any loss of quality. I do not have BR or a computer that plugs into my TV/projector, so for now I see this as the best way to edit and view video without loss of quality.

    1. Use HDVSplit to capture HDV to my hard drive using Firewire
    2. Use Premier CS3 to edit the video clips
    3. How do I put the video back onto another MiniDV tape???

    Thanks!

To avoid loss of quality, you need to smart render your HDV footage, rather than re-encode it. Does Premier do that?

To get the result back onto tape, you need HDV print to tape functionality. A number of NLEs have it, and there's also a free program (DVHSTOOL). There are some discussions over on HV20.com, and I've seen people report all kinds of problems.

    Cheers,
    David.
