    hi

i have a little problem that im hoping some of you more experienced might be able to assist me with!:

i have created a two pal dvds most of which my client wants in pal format.

the first was a movie cut into chapters using tmpg enc and the dvd authoring programme.

the second was a slideshow - also with chapters created with some slideshow software called arcsoft.

the customer has asked me for an additional 1 x ntsc copy (for someone in canada) and 1 x secam (for someone in france) copy of each.

is there a way of acheiving this using say tmpgenc without losing all of my hours of chapter work??

    desperately hoping so!

    cheers

Good news for the copy for France - there is no such thing as SECAM in DVD, so your PAL copy will work perfectly!

Bad news for the copy for Canada - you will have to re-do everything to get it into NTSC. There are tricks you can do with pulldown that might or not keep you from having to re-do it all, but if someone is paying, you shouldn't do that. The odds of it not working are quite high and you'll like a chump if you try this and it fails. The only sure way for it to work is to re-do it in NTSC.

brilliant news re france - thank you! i feel so happy!

actually, i feel bad and 'chumpy' since client has already paid.

when you say re do everything in ntsc, does that mean re-encoding original files and then re-creating chapters again then?

also - when you say that the odds of it not working are quite high in canada do you mean a pal copy not playing in canada? would the same apply in reverse ie an ntsc version would be unlikely to play in the the uk?

The odds of an NTSC disc playing in the UK are probably better than 85%. The odds of a PAL disc playing in Canada or the US are probably closer to 35%, but slowly rising.

Which ever way you convert you are in for a re-author. If you you convert to 29.970 fps then you will have to change the chapter points because the framerate is differnt
