    Thats not going to happen.

It's either the media or burner your using. Verbatim is the only DVD+R DL thats really any good.
Hmm...well, my burner's a Optiarc AD-7173A (Sony) and I used both GQ (Rich JPN) and Philip DVD+R DL discs. Both of which has massive pauses. At first I thought it was my burn, but then the discs played perfectly with my RCN player. That's why it leads me to think it might be this player that doesn't actually support DL discs. To be sure, I did contact Philips and the reps told me it isn't supported. Go figures.

Then I would try a Verbatim DL + disc and see if that makes any difference.

Yes, the media your using is terrible. You probably need to update your drives firmware. Liggy and Dee do a great work with modified firmware.

    LOL, there's a 2nd that can't get DVD+R DL to work right.
Guess I ain't the only one

But seriously, I think it has something to do with the software used.
I've used Nero, ImgBurn, Alcohol, CloneCD AND CloneDVD. All of them gave me nasty pauses all over the 2nd half of the disc. It's totally annoying. Some of the discs even freezes like 3/4 of the way.
Kinda hard to believe that this is a media problem.

So, you've used several different programs, all with the same results, yet you don't think that it may be the media?! You've already admitted that you use crap media.

Try a Verbatim, then let us know if you have the same problem

I am in the process of obtaining a Verbatim DVD+R DL. Kinda trying to find one at a more acceptable price range

However, just so that you know, those disc works in my RCN DRC unit. That's why I didn't think it's the media.

so what's the most recent firmware update? or which one should I use?

I don't need anything too fancy, but I'd like to see more characters when browsing files off the USB, and I'd like those files to be arranged alphabetically! I use standard notation on episodes (SXXEXX), but it doesn't help if 1) you can't read the whole name, and 2) they're not in the correct order.

    It's a U.S./North American 5990. Just bought it.

    Thanks.

I am using Verbatims. The same ones that the 360 reads. The DVDS I burnt play fine in that. In the 5990 it just sits loading forever. I use CloneDVD

My dvd player is the Pioneer 111D

  16. OK figured it out. If I leave the dvd sit long enough the movie finally plays.. haha

    I really don't understand you...

It's so hard to read main index and find what you want?
    It's a BIG topic about 5990/12 version....

Thanks for the firmware. Just loaded it on my 5990/37.

    Question:

Is it possible to associate a jpg with a divx file, and get jpeg preview? (xtag)

so that when looking through the list of divx, I see cover art?

    thanks

    * New "File Cutter", number of character in FileBrowser is limit now to length of "yellow" band.(More than 40 char.)

not on mine? flashed and reflashed it with nothing getting better, is there something else you have to do besides upgrade the firmware? like a reset?

I really used the search function. There was no result because I searched for 5990/12 and not for 5990. Didn't look at the index because normally the search function is much better. Anyway. Thx for the hint.

Has nothing to do with being relaxed. You've been a member of this forum since 25 Aug 2003. You should know better. I added to my initial post so hopefully it will encourage to read first. This way we won't continue to rehash the same questions. Thanks
