Hmm...well, my burner's a Optiarc AD-7173A (Sony) and I used both GQ (Rich JPN) and Philip DVD+R DL discs. Both of which has massive pauses. At first I thought it was my burn, but then the discs played perfectly with my RCN player. That's why it leads me to think it might be this player that doesn't actually support DL discs. To be sure, I did contact Philips and the reps told me it isn't supported. Go figures.Originally Posted by Tripper_

Then I would try a Verbatim DL + disc and see if that makes any difference.

GQ is total shit. There's your problem right there.

Philips is shit with a ribbon on it.

What do you mean by....Philips is shit with a *ribbon* on it?Originally Posted by Supreme2k

Meaning not quite GQ level shit, but still pretty awful.

Yes, the media your using is terrible. You probably need to update your drives firmware. Liggy and Dee do a great work with modified firmware.Originally Posted by PixelaseR

	LOL, there's a 2nd that can't get DVD+R DL to work right.
Guess I ain't the only one

But seriously, I think it has something to do with the software used.
I've used Nero, ImgBurn, Alcohol, CloneCD AND CloneDVD. All of them gave me nasty pauses all over the 2nd half of the disc. It's totally annoying. Some of the discs even freezes like 3/4 of the way.
Kinda hard to believe that this is a media problem.
-
It must be serious if it brought out Mister 2 Posts per Year

So, you've used several different programs, all with the same results, yet you don't think that it may be the media?! You've already admitted that you use crap media.Originally Posted by PixelaseR

Try a Verbatim, then let us know if you have the same problem

I am in the process of obtaining a Verbatim DVD+R DL. Kinda trying to find one at a more acceptable price rangeOriginally Posted by Supreme2k

However, just so that you know, those disc works in my RCN DRC unit. That's why I didn't think it's the media.

so what's the most recent firmware update? or which one should I use?

I don't need anything too fancy, but I'd like to see more characters when browsing files off the USB, and I'd like those files to be arranged alphabetically! I use standard notation on episodes (SXXEXX), but it doesn't help if 1) you can't read the whole name, and 2) they're not in the correct order.

 It's a U.S./North American 5990. Just bought it.

 Thanks.

I am using Verbatims. The same ones that the 360 reads. The DVDS I burnt play fine in that. In the 5990 it just sits loading forever. I use CloneDVDOriginally Posted by Supreme2k

My dvd player is the Pioneer 111D

OK figured it out. If I leave the dvd sit long enough the movie finally plays.. haha

	Hi folks,

can this firmware http://rapidshare.com/files/151869008/DVP5990_37_vb6_v1_2_1_PAL_default.rar.html also be used for my 5990/12 (bought in Germany)?

 Thx in advance

EDIT: is there a limitation besides FAT32 for an external hard drive?

	I really don't understand you...Originally Posted by Alibaba7

 It's a BIG topic about 5990/12 version....

Thanks for the firmware. Just loaded it on my 5990/37.

 Question:

Is it possible to associate a jpg with a divx file, and get jpeg preview? (xtag)

so that when looking through the list of divx, I see cover art?

 thanks

I really used the search function. There was no result because I searched for 5990/12 and not for 5990. Didn't look at the index because normally the search function is much better. Anyway. Thx for the hint.Originally Posted by vb6rocod

Has nothing to do with being relaxed. You've been a member of this forum since 25 Aug 2003. You should know better. I added to my initial post so hopefully it will encourage to read first. This way we won't continue to rehash the same questions. ThanksOriginally Posted by jimsmith
