  1. Could someone tell me why the "WRITE CD" is always greyed out
when I tried to build a VCD or SVCD on Nero. I did drag and drop
the Mpeg file into the MPEGAV directory, but nothing happen after
that, I cannot start the burn because the WRITE CD from the file menu
or the task icon are both greyed out. I am pretty sure the mpg
file I provide is VCD compliant, since I can create an image using
VCDImager. Anyway, Nero did not complain either, just nothing
happened! I tried to reinstall Nero, but that does not help either. I
believe I had a SVCD build once. Creating a ISO disk is never a
problem either. Nero does not seem to have any technical help that
I can send message. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Just a simple check before you dig in deeper...

Make sure you have the new svcd compilation window highlighted (by default, the left pane in the file browser.) If you have the right pane highlighted, both the write cd button on the toolbar and the write cd option in the file menu will be unavailable.

Sounds like a no brainer, but I almost had an aneurism one day before I realized the problem.

i had the exact problem. make sure you dont drag and drop directly in the mpegav folder...drag from the browser and drop into the filespace BELOW the file listing of the mpegav folders etc...this'll make nero pop up some kind of conversion table, that'll hang there for a few seconds [depending on the speed of you computer] and then after the popup window disappears, check out the mpegav folder, you'll see you movie file there.
and the write cd option wont be greyed out
hope this works for you, it worked for me

    cheers

How can you drag a file into the MPEGAV directory? *What* MPEGAV directory? There isn't one to drag a file into...when you make an SVCD or VCD, you start with a new file compliation and specify what files to burn. You let Nero make the directories...you don't make the directories yourself.

    open nero, go file>new

    then choose vcd.

you WILL see an mpegav directory...it'll be just above the area where you drag and drop your files.
