I like to discuss stuff before wasting time...
wmp definitely dislikes my ogg theora I've created with mediacoder even though I've the windows for ogg codecs installed. Even VLC couldn't play it.
However, I was able to simply convert a dv-avi to ogg with ffmpg2theora and VLC liked that.
What I'd like to do now is, since the only thing working on my box I can clearly see is ffmpg2theora, have some control over it with more parameters.
Being a command line tool, I need to resize, kbps, etc...or I'll be stuck resizing and goofing with the avi before it's converted
Any thoughts on this obscure format out there?

I think I'm looking for this...
Code:ffmpeg2theora.exe -o theora_test.ogg --croptop 82 --cropbottom 78 --cropleft 2 --cropright 2 -x 640 -y 256 -v 6 "c:\path to\vts_02_5.vob"main
--output,-o: alternative output
--format,-f: specify input format
--width,-x: scale to given size
--height,-y: scale to given size
--crop[top|bottom|left|right]: crop input before resizing
--deinterlace,-d [off|on]: en/disable deinterlace (enabled by default right now)
--videoquality,-v [0 to 10]: encoding quality for video (variable bitrate/1pass - quality based/in my test -v 6 resulted in ~750kbps)
--audioquality,-a [-1 to 10]: encoding quality for audio
--samplerate,-H: set output samplerate in Hz
--nosound: disable the sound from input
--debug: output some more information during encoding
executed as a .bat
it's probably in the help file
anyone use vdub for this?
any tips?
Thx -

I'm using ffmpeg2theora in XP and getting .ogv
yet another container?
I read an older version of mediacoder may be better...

This helped put it in perspective
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ogg_theora
with this on the same page...
Previous evaluations have found VP3 and Theora substantially lacking compared to contemporary video codecs.
next up for me...VLC -
