I have a Sony DVD recorder and I was going to record a channel. So, I use the remote to select the channel I want to record and then suddenly it saids LINE1, LINE2, and LINE3. Does anyone know what that means?

Those refer to the inputs (composite and/or S-video.) If you keep flipping through the options, you should be able to select the channel you wish to record. Or use the numeric keypad on the remote to go to the channel directly. All should be outlined in your manual.

If all you see are those LINE inputs, you prob. haven't scanned for channels. Check manual and see how you do an auto-scan for channels, can be called am Auto Channel Preset, or similar.
