Cannot get any avi to dvd software to work (various errors)

Hi everyone and thanks for taking the time to read my post. Ok this one has had me tearing my haor out for weeks now. I have always used convertxtodvd to burn my avi files to dvd disc and it has worked fine that is untill one day whilst halfway through the conversion stage i get an error messgae saying transcoder has stopped working. I have tried it on previous avi files that had previously burnt ok and it gives the same message.
I have tried different versions of convertxtodvd and that gives the same messgage even after i have use vso clean and reinstalled the software. Even a complete reinstall of windows vista 32 holds no joy.
Ok now i tried dvdflick to see if that would burn ok but know it just keeps stopping at the video conversion and says ffmpeg.exe has stopped working
ashampoo burning studio gives me the blue screen of death .
The thing is wen i try to run these programs on my old xp machine they work fine.
Obviously this is a program with the conversion process (trancoder stopped working, ffmpeg.exe has stopped working) but i cant find any fix for it after forum hunting it seems lots of people have had this fault but no real answer.
Can you good people help i help.

Try FAVC, which doesn't use FFMpeg as it's encoding engine, and see if it runs through

No that crashed and gave me the old blue screen of death however at the beginning it did ask if i wanted to us ffdshow i choice the option as yes but only once im going to try it without ffdshow and see if that helps any will give you and update later. Wish me luck!!!

Have you installed any codec packs ?
Have you installed the latest video card drivers ?

A BSOD usually means either hardware or drivers. FAVC should not care about video drivers, so perhaps your problems lie elsewhere. Next time it blue screens you need to get the number associated with the error.

If he has more than one stick of memory, he should try one of them at a time

Think i got it and it was the pc heating i wiped away some fluff n dust off my fans and grill and hey presto it worked time for a clean out me thinks
