Hi all. New at this so please be patient !

    Problem:
I have a small avi file (6mb) taken on Canon digital camera in "portrait" view - i.e. with camera held vertically instead of horizontally

    Question:
Is there any simple method of editing it or turning it around 90 deg so that it can be viewed on the monitor in normal "landscape" view ?

Not reaally up with the correct terminology so hope you can understand what i'm talking about ...
Thanks in advance to anyone who can assist or point me in the right direction.

  2. I'll try to avoid a lot of complicated terminology involving 4:3 versus 16:9. widescreen, anamorphic, maintaining aspect ratio, letterboxing, and a whole bunch of other stuff.

    No.

  3. Easiest way is just to use a media player that can rotate the view for you (the clip is not permanently altered, just the display of it). An example is Mplayer, just right click and there is a sub-menu for many functions

If you want you can re-encode it (you will lose some quality) with a rotating filter. You can do this with avidemux with it's built in filters

    Cheers

Probably MJPEG. You could rotate it with VirtualDub Mod, but you would have to re-encode it. But if you want a different final format, easier to do it there.
