well I have managed to get the screen pretty good without powerstrip. But I will keep this utility on hand for any future use that may come up. thanks again krbo.

all I did was add more profiles(all of the 1080p ones) under the catalyst control panel and I applied the 1920X1080p 60hz profile. at first it still didnt look right(still off to the left of screen). next time i booted the pc though the screen magically was centered(still black bars on each side) but then I just used the built in scaler and voila! so I dont know what I did to correct the centering of it. but its good now.

You should have went with an AMD 780G motherboard and a middle of the road AMD Athlon 64 X2 processor. For a budget HTPC it can't be beat as the video card chipset built-in the 780G is made to decode H.264 as well as Blu-Ray etc.

The system you put together will struggle without getting a video card.

  4. I got the GIGABYTE GA-MA78GPM-DS2H Integrated 128MB DDR3 SidePort Memory for $104.

Vista sucks a lot of memory .you need a minimum of 2GB to avoid any hiccups

ya I got 2 gb of memory and vista sp1 does do pretty well at pushing out unneeded applications when more memory is needed. vista always try's to keep your memory used for quicker performance. anticipate your next move so to speak.

hmm not sure man. I just keep playing with settings until i get it close. my problem was the scale on the 50" plasma. and at first it was not centered. but for some reason on next bootup(after resolution of 1080p and 60hz) it centers fine. and was easy to scale with the radeon control panel. that was my only problem.

The motherboard you are using ... the GIGABYTE GA-MA78GPM-DS2H ... has an Optical S/PDIF output. Have you tried that yet? One of the reasons why I suggested that motherboard was due to the fact that it has such an output!
