hi through reading and experementation i have solved a lot of my previous problems but..
i have downloaded several films at 25or 29.7 fps with a resolution of 352x288 i have encoded them using tmpgec then burnt them as pal vcds using nero nero has not reencoded them in any way but the finished quality is still not as expected ie it is grainy and fuzzy .not at all sharp so can any one guide me as to how i can now improve the quality i am playing them on a dvd player and on the tv

So you downloaded compressed videos off the net, then recompressed them with tmpeg enc, and the quality isn't top notch? The hell you say! No, seriously, this is called GarbageIn-GarbageOut, you can't reencode movies and expect better(not even equal) quality since the video data has already been removed and you're removing more. If it's something you really want done right then find the source on dvd and convert it to the format you want.
