Can't get video to "import" from my JVC GR-D72U utilizing DV. I have contacted JVC, nothing but silence on their end.

I have tried 2 different (and new) 1394 Firewire cards (which installed as easy as previous members have indicated), purchased new 4-6 pin Belkin cable, upgraded drivers for my NVidia GE Force 6800 series Video Card. Tried to import with Pinnacle, Microsoft Movie Maker, etc. Program will "control" the camera, but no video comes across.

2GB RAM, processor is P4 3.6Ghz, plenty of disc space, DirectX V 9.0.

Only other option.....camera is failing.....I have tweaked the camera menu settings, but can't find anything that is out of the ordinary.

Is there a hidden button somewhere on the camera that I'm missing???? No indicator in the owners manual.

Frustration sux......time to go and watch Dodgers/Phillies and have a glass pf wine.

    Thanx for any ideas.

  2. the camera should be on, in play mode, not record mode. then plug in the firewire cable. camera should show up in my computer. use winDV to capture in type II avi. if you can't get it to start capturing with the software, just push play on the camera after starting the software capture on the computer.

Thanx....the camera is on, and then, in capture mode, I am able to control the camera (forward/rev/pause etc.) via Firewire/Computer software. So, by definition, I'm seeing the camera and controlling it.....unfortunately, no video coming across.

Tried both of your suggestions....unfortunately, still no joy.... (cable inserted after camera is on and manual play). Still no joy.,

  5. when you click the capture button in winDV, does the video play in the preview area of it?

Unfortunately, the video does not play in the Preview area at all.

This leads me to believe that there may be something with the camera.

I have not tried winDV yet, but will download and try before a telephone conversation with JVC scheduled for later this afternoon.....I'll keep you informed. I have tried to capture in both Pinnacle and Windows MovieMaker.

Looking at the JVC forums on www.camcorderinfo.com you will find that you are not the only one that has problems with a JVC camcorder. From what I've gathered on various sites, the best solution seems to be to get a firewire card that has a Texas Instruments chipset on it. Also, to make sure that you have the latest Direct X. I used to have a JVC camcorder and that is what worked for me. Good Luck!

Surprise, surprise everyone......just got off the horn with JVC Customer Service......their answer is to contact Microsoft because it is obviously a M/S Software problem. I suggested that 4 different capture programs won't work, but tech-rep insists it is not their problem.

Don't know of any M/S tweaks that would prohibit it from capturing video.

    Any other thoughts out there???

Another quick note.....there was quite a bit of information on www.camcorderinfo.com......most of it referred to problems going from SP-1 toSP-2 starting in 2004 and involved re-installing SP-1 drivers.......I am now up to SP-3, and tried to follow their registry edits for SidSpeed and couldn't......Don't wanna buy a new camera, a new computer or a new operating system. Waaahhhhh!

  10. the only thing i can even imagine is that the microsoft dv codec is messed up on your computer. you could try the free enosoft dv which will replace the m$ one.

worth a try? maybe, but i would be surprised if it isn't the cam.
