    Hi,

I converted a ts file to avi mpg4 and the picture is great!, except I have no sound. I know I did something wrong. I'm a newbie...is the audio in the ts file too?

In the main window of ffmpegX, where "Summary" is highlighted, it says "Source format" on the left side. After you drop the .ts file there, it should list the format (MPEG-TS), the video details (mpeg2video, I guess) and the audio details. Is the audio recognized there? Please specify.

Here's what displayed in the summary window:

    Source Format
    From: MPEG-TS
    Video: mpeg2video, yuv420p, 544x480, 15000 kb/s
    Audio: mp2, 48000 Hz, stereo, 160 kb/s

    Target Format
    To: AVI DivX
Video: mencoder mpeg4, 544x480, 940 kbps, 29.97 fps, no crop
    Audio: mp3, 48000 Hz, 128 kbps

If I knew how to upload I'd add screenshots.

Okay, so there is audio and it is recognized.

I forgot to mention: there is a known issue with mencoder not detecting audio in MPEG-TS (.ts) files.
Try to use a different encoder preset (that doesn't have mencoder in the name).

Alternatively, you could convert the .ts file to .mpg using MPEG Streamclip (just a format change, the video and audio stay the same), as .mpg files with mp2 audio can be converted fine using a mencoder preset.

Thanks again Case. I downloaded MPEG Streamclip and followed your directions. I was successful to convert to avi format with ffmpegX!

    Hi,

I am having the exact same problem frank65 had with the video converting great, but the audio being nonexistent. The only difference between his case and mine is that the audio that is recognized in the Summary field is ac3.

I am no video sav, but do know that the JVC Everio camcorder that I am converting the video files from has caused many a person fits and unwanted harassment. That said, what can I do to convert the forsaken .MOD files into AVI files with great video AND audio?
