  1. Hi all

I own a Coby DVD-211 DVD player. The problem i am facing is i am not able to play cd's as well as dvd's on it. I download movies from torrents and burn the movie with nero as data. See the attached images for movie properties. It's a .avi with Xvid video compression, which i think should play in my DVD player.

Another weird thing is , when i burn the movie from my computer they don't work on any other dvd player as well. I use Nero as my burning software. And cd's/dvd's burnt from other computers work very well on the player. Does that mean there's something wrong with the way i burn those cd/dvd's?

What happened to the owner's manual for your Coby unit? Just a quick Google search will tell you what it can play: DVD, DVD+R/RW, CD, CD-R/RW, & JPEG. It does NOT play Xvid .avi files. To understand DVD-compliant files, see What Is > DVD at the upper left of this website's main page.

Evidently, the information I was reading on the Coby player was incomplete. Nevertheless, there are several types of AVIs, and I would think the manual would elaborate on which types are compatible. Through process of elimination, run a Gspot (freeware) analysis on the type of AVI that works in the Coby player, and compare the findings to the unplayable video files on the discs you made with Nero. Try to determine what the difference is.

Building on what filmboss80 wrote, if it turns out your player won't play .AVI files, convert the file to MPEG2 (What is DVD) and burn with IMGBurn.

Nero won't do the job correctly.

It's an Xvid. Not sure it's good that the audio is Variable Bitrate. When you burnt it on Nero, did you choose Video-CD or Data-CD mode? An Xvid movie should be burned to a data CD. The same is true when burning to DVD disc, since it is not authored as a DVD movie with TS folders, VOB files, etc.

Did you do a Gspot analysis on AVIs that actually play on the Coby player? Let's see what they have that the unplayable movie does not.

  9. Just drop it in DVDFlick, select PAL and burn a DVD-Video.
I agree with Heck54...this thread borders on warez,in the future just say you have "a video from a friend".
