I've decided to try and get away from using TMPGEnc's internal sharpening filter for reasons of better speed. I've settled on Donald Graft's MSharpen filter as my preferred choice for now because I want to be able to use both VDub & AviSynth as my frameservers and this filter has equivalents for both applications.

Typically, I run the following filters on my source videos in this order:

    ConvertToRGB(matrix="PC.601")
    Crop
    Lanczos4Resize
    AddBorders

The cropping is to get rid of any black borders from the source video. The resize is obvious and the add borders is to put back my own custom black borders for the purposes of allowing for CRT screen overscan.

My question is a simple one. Where in amongst those lines would you think is the best place to put the MSharpen line? I know it has to go after the crop, but before resize, before add borders or right at the end? What would produce the best result? Does it make any difference at all?

If the source is interlaced then you need to be careful with your resizing.
