  1. I want to burn SVCD. I rip using SmartRipper, and then use TMPGEnc to create the mpg2 file, and use Nero to burn the CD. EVERYTHING is working great, except the original DVD is 16:9 and I want to preserve the aspect ratio when I play the SVCD (using black bars at the top and bottom) so it doesn't appear "squished" as it does now because it's playing back as a 4:3 ratio.

Is the setting changes needed in SmartRipper or TMPGEnc??? I tried using the drop down box in TMPGEnc wizard and changed aspect ratio from 4:3 (525 lines) to 16:9 (525 lines) NTSC but no effect after burning with Nero and playing.

Do I use the other "16:9 Display" setting in the TMPGEnc dropdown? Or do I have to do something different in SmartRipper? Other settings need to be changed?

Please explain how I can get the final SVCD to playback 16:9 with black bars on the top and bottom like the original DVD. The setting on my DVD player (changing to widescreen) didn't help either.

    Thanks!

Almost no dvd players are able to play anamorphic (S)VCD. Resize instead. Source aspect ratio 16:9, target aspect ratio 4:3.
