If you want everyone to be able to play your DVDs then you can't use DivX as not every DVD player will recognise the disk. The smaller file size makes them quicker to burn but (in my experience) then increased compression takes a lot longer to achieve. Personally I only send DivX files if they are specifically requested and the person asking can convince me they know how to play them and are just not using some buzz word they've heard somewhere

For what it's worth I create 1 master disk which I keep safe and when someone wants a DVD I simply make a copy from my master (15 minutes tops on my burner)

If you are selling the videos, I would stick to MPEG-2. Divx may be a option, but the majority of people still use a regular DVD player.

What programs are you using at present to create your DVDs? What method for capture, editing, encoding and burning are you using?

Also, what brand of DVD media are you using?

I know, a lot of questions, but if you want information, you need to give some first.

    And welcome to our forums.

If your magic DVDs look crappy, you'll never be taken seriously. It's all about presentation.

Don't worry about "what program to use" as much as you need to understand the entire process, from camera to disc. Be sure the interlace/progressive matches the source, if you shoot HiDef, you'll be downscaling, so that shooting style may be a waste of time right there.

    Use DVDs, not CDs.

Author in real software, don't let Roxio butcher it.
