i have about 25 DivX Movies...
They Are ALL Over 1 Hour 30 Minutes! And Take Up like 800MB in Avi Format!
I need 2 make SVCDs of them (or VCDS), yes my player can handle Vcds/Svcds. How would I do it? Step By Step...
If ayone can help me out, I would forever be grateful... (please reply only if u know what u r talkin about, cuz yesterday I spent about 20 hours (NON STOP) trying to do this, with help from 9 people who didnt even know what they were talkin about)
These r the things i THINK I need 2 know:
1 - Convert avi to mpg format
2 - Cut the new mpg format in 2 or 3 to fit on 2-3 cds
3 - have the sound in sync with video
4 - burn the vcd/svcd on a Cd-Rw of 74minutes (650mB)
I dont want or need fancy shit like "MENUS and CAPTIONING" i'll be fine if i can watch these movies on my dvd player thats hooked up to my tv!
Thanks and let me know...

Software: VirtualDub, TMPGEnc, VCDEasy or TSCV (upto you)
1) VirtualDub - Open your AVI, Select Save WAV
2) TMPGEnc - AVI as Video Input, WAV as Audio Input, load VCD or SVCD Template, use Source Range (in Settings/Advanced) to select where you want to cut your movie, if using VideoCD, each 1min = 10mb.
3) VCDEasy - Add your new MPG file, unselect Simulate/Burn, create a Cue/Bin by pressing the Go button, when done, go to Tools - CDRDao, and load the Cue file, and Burn your CD.
This is the most straight forward I can possible think of, let me know if you want anything more specific.Email me for faster replies!

I did that, but when i put my avi file as video inpuit, it says "Video file incompatible"
its a avi (divx) movie... Also
my resolution for the movie is like 538X298, and I dont wanna shrink/enlarge it, I want the mpg in the same resoltution...
So plz, can anyone re-help me?! -
Try these for your TMPGEnc: in Options/Environmental/VFAPI increase the AVI priority to 2 or 3, it might help it read the file.
MAKE SURE you have the TMPGEnc VFAPI installed in the same folder!!!
If both those don't help, get TMPGEnc 12a, it can read DivX/AVI files MUCH better then ANY other version!
If you keep the same resolution, you will be creating a non-standard file, and at that resolution I doubt it will even play on your DVD Player.Email me for faster replies!

oops, I used the avi file as sound input, and my movie didnt have sound! (god damn it!)
Ok, i'll use wav... direct stream or full processing mode?
By the way, the mpg that I made was 2.4GB.
How do i distinguish between mode 1, 2 mpeg / mpg.
is it the file name? (mpg/ mpeg)
amnd for some reason, my movie was only 1hour and about 35 minutes, but the new mpg file I created truned out to be around 3 hours!!!
(1:35 worth of movies, and the rest was a BLANK black Screen!!!)
I also heard that tmpenc was the worst mpg cutter ever... what do u recomened...
I also know that theres a divx (avi) to mpg converter that akes about 30 minutes (max of 45) to convert a 800mb file (avi) thats around 2 hours into mpg in 30 minutes... I dont care if its commercial or trial or anything, (cuz I can eiether crack it, or find a full version on a warez site) Tmpenc took me arou8nd 7 hours.... any suggestionz?! (just name the program)
Thankz guys / girls let me know ASAP -
Do you not realize that this entire site is pretty much devoted to doing just that. Look to the left hand side of your screen. See the "How To" section? See the "Convert" section below that? Now click on that and spend a little time reading through the many guides on how to convert Divx to SVCD or VCD or xSVCD or xVCD. Neat-o!
Make sure you have installed the DivX codec as well.
Then if you are still having trouble come back and ask a question, but put a little effort into reading through the guides first. They take you step by step along the way, and answer questions like "direct stream or full processing?". -
i did, 18 hours nonstop.... they missed 1 important fact tho... use the tmpeng12a... i downloaded latest 1....
and I really dont appreciate your sarcasm..
if u dont believe me i read that, then ask the webmaster how many hits/views he got thru my ip... (i m a webmaster, and i know webmasters can track)
ok? I am sure it will be atleast a couple 100 pages I read... thank u very much for your help mordant -
another thing that people r avoiding to asnwer is the fact that when i "LOAD" those settings.... (ntscfile, ntsc, pal) It chanegs my movies reoslution, I downloaded the mvoie at a good reoslution of 538X300 (around tht muhc) and Imdont wanna shrink it down to a shitty one of 238Xsomethin ....
So I ned 2 know how 2 keep the same resolution and the same fps my fps is like 23 (right clicked on movie, and went in properties...Summary)
I mean last ntie it took me 6 hours to do this, and it didnt even come out right cuz I forgot to inpout the audio as wav file... So before i restart I wanna make srue I get it all right... -
Well, I started out having no idea how to convert a divx to vcd. I came here and read the guides. Followed them step by step, and ended up with a vcd. That suggests to me that you didn't read them very carefully.
I've used tmpenc 12 and now use 2.5...I don't see how that makes a difference.
If you read the guide you would not have had to ask about using direct stream for audio. Or perhaps if you read the guide carefully and actually followed along without skipping bits. Sefy's original newbie guide is a good place to start.
You asked about how you could tell mpeg 1 and 2 apart. Did you select a template to use? If you selected the VCD template then you have mpeg 1. If you selected SVCD you have mpeg2.
There was some sarcasm there, granted. But when someone says "how do I make a vcd from divx" and there are pages and pages of info already on the site, not to mention the ability to search the forum...what do you expect?
Thankfully Sefy is quite patient and knowledgeable. I'm sure he can help you through it.
As to Tmpgenc being a terrible mpeg cutter....Once more if you read the guide you would see that you don't have to actually cut the mpegs. You can use the Source Range function under Advanced settings to select the first half of the movie, encode that as *disc1.mpg, then select the second half of the movie and encode that as *disc2.mpg. There you have the movie in two mpegs without cutting. Your other choice is to cut with VirtualDub first (what I did in the beginning), but it seems a waste of time to me now.
I also don't bother extracting the audio first. I up the priority of Direct Show in the enviorment settings to 1 and this allows tmpgenc to use the compressed audio in the divx file. I've been meaning to try extracting the audio first because some people have said it makes the encode run faster, but since its working for me I haven't played around with that yet.
I'd like to be helpfull where I can, and I understand the frustration that comes from waiting hours for a result only to find that it didn't work. Been there myself.
As to resizing. You are best off using one of the standard VCD/SVCD sizes, and going for a size smaller than the original DivX is better than going for one larger....you also have to experiment a bit to see what your DVD player supports. I use 352x480 SVCD currently and it seems alright to me.
Since you are having so much trouble I'd try making a VCD first with one pass encoding. It won't take so long to find out if things were set right. Once you've got that, try doing an xVCD with a higher bitrate. You can get some nice results with a CBR of 1800 and up (giving about 50-60min on a 700mb CD). If that works try changing the resolution to 352x480 and see if your player supports it. After that I'd try for 480x480 SVCDs.
I use the Source Range function to find a good break point near the middle of the movie. I check the time for the selected section and use the bitrate calc here to find my bitrate. -
One more thing...
You are asking for help. You are not entitled to help.
another thing that people r avoiding to asnwer is the fact that when i "LOAD" those settings.... (ntscfile, ntsc, pal) It chanegs my movies reoslution, I downloaded the mvoie at a good reoslution of 538X300 (around tht muhc) and Imdont wanna shrink it down to a shitty one of 238Xsomethin ....
No one is "avoiding" an answer. Tone down the aggression. DVD players can only play certain resolutions. If you are encoding for play on a DVD player than you must use one of those resolutions (a search of the forum would have found this) they are 352x240, 352x480, 480x480, and 704x480...these are NTSC, for PAL its slightly different. For that frame rate you will have to select a Film Template I believe...I think you can find that info right at the very beginning of Sefy's classic newbie guide. -
..and this is in the wrong forum. Read the forum description. "no questions about conversion"
This should be in Newbie Conversion. -
yeah but I live in canada... my dvd player only plays NTSC vcds... (not svcds, or xvcds) and ntsc vcds only have a low resolution, so wehn i "LOAD" thore settigns and click ENCODE... it starts the encoding at a low relutin.. and I cant cange it....
thats where I need help in..
Plus, mor... thatn cut tip was very VERy usefull.. (preciate it) thank u VERY much....
Now to go for the burnin...
(plz reply back if u know how 2 keep my good resolution but use the NTSC - vcd) format.... thankz! -
finished burnin a movie... (works)
1 quick thing and i will stop buggin u guys (lol)
the vcds, wehn i insert em inside comp... they say i have used only 2mb, but when i insert in dvd player (hooked up to my tv) it plays movie... so any way 2 play a vcd on the comp, like with a vcd plaeyr or soemthin, WITHOUT having 2 convert the vcd data file all the way back to a mpg and/or avi? any vcd plaeyrs that will play a movie thru cd?!
Plz let me know.. thanx! -
Which DVD player do you have? Did you check the DVD Players list to see what formats it supports? A lot of players will let you use XVCDs. If your player really only plays VCD then you are stuck with the 352x240 resolution at 1150 bitrate.
Any change from the above is an xVCD. To try and change the resolution you have to first load the VCD template and load the UNLOCK template which is found in the Extra folder. Unlock will let you change resolution and bitrate (among other things). I'd try just keeping the VCD resolution of 352x240, and upping the bitrate to 1800 first. The higher bitrate makes a big difference in how the picture looks.
If that works, but you still aren't happy then try changing the resolution to 352x480. Or try loading the SVCD template which will give you the 480x480.
Also try doing a 2 pass VBR encode. It will take twice as long but can make a big difference in high action scenes. -
gdi-shooter, I apologise for the late reply, for some reason I couldn't get into the forum for awhile, I will try my best to answer your questions here, oh and i've added you to my ICQ list today, so you can ask me questions even when i'm offline and i'll get them, now regarding your questions:
1) I don't remember if I mentioned, but use VirtualDub to create a WAV file from your Audio, and use that file as your Audio Input.
2) TMPGEnc 12a handles AVI files much better then all the new versions, it can even handle ASF files, so if you can get it, get it!
3) I'm not sure why you got such a long (and empty) file, but i've done quite a bit of cutting using TMPGEnc without problems.
4) The long encoding took you mostly because you used the AVI for both the Audio and Video, if you use the WAV as Audio it will be faster, oh, and the old TMPGEnc is slow in encoding, the latest one is faster.
5) When loading the Templates it DOES change your resolution, cause the one you have is NOT compliant! and if you want to have something that will play on a DVD Player, you MUST use the compliant resolutions!!!
6) I've never written any guide regarding AVI conversion, as I find it rather useless myself, but the reason I recommand TMPGEnc 12a and not the latest ones is because of it's ability to open more types of AVI files.
7) Your fps seems like an NTSC Film standard, so load either the VCD or SVCD Film Template, regarding the resolution, make sure you tell TMPGEnc that your source is Wide Screen, that will preserve the same aspect ratio.
8) Get PowerDVD or WinDVD, and they will play your VCD/SVCD much better then any other program.
I hope this answers more or less on your questions, I do apologise for the late replies in this topic.
Oh, and thank you for the compliments Mordant, very much appriciated!Email me for faster replies!

Sefy, you said old one handles more avi files but new 1 is faster, so new 1 is pretty much useslls, because wahts the point of speed, when there is nothing to open... right?
Also, I live In canada, where can I buy those 99min cdr, that apparantly hold 850mb (normal data)...
If I dont "LOAD" any settings in tmpgenc, and start the ENCODING, what format wil it encode in? vcd? svcd? or Xvcd? Do ALL dvd players (supporting vcd) HAVE 2 be able 2 run XVCD?
thankz msg me back....
Sefy, i'll auhorise You asap (this smg was sent through a school computah)
oh 1 more hing, I know this has nothin to do inn this section, but whe I enable overurn on a cd-r (700MB) (80Min), how much am I supposed 2 set the overburn to on my 700mb/80min cd r. Nero also says THIS MAY DAMAGE your uburner.... will it?
Thankz In Advamnce! -

gdi-shooter, well, if it's for AVI encoding, then yeah, it's pretty much useless, unless you could use the VFAPI converter on the AVI and that might make it read them, but I don't know, I never tried.
Regarding 99min CDR, I have absolutly no idea!, if you can buy them on the web, then go to http://www.disc4you.com/start.html and im sure you can find more places.
As for not loading a Template, it depends on which encoding TMPGEnc is set to, if it's MPEG1, then you will get XVCD (or xVCD), if it's MPEG2, then you will get XSVCD (or more like xSVCD).
Regarding Overburning, I suggest you check if your CDRW is capable of it, and do simulation before you do an actuall burning, and try increasing by 5 min overburn, and see where your CDRW fails if it fails.Email me for faster replies!

Plz HELP! -
is this some kind of help ?
can u read english ?
do you know how 2 use a computer ?
1) your post is on the wrong forum for a start - and badly headed
2) you keep bumping-up this ill conceived post
3) you obviously dont know much about mpeg formats
4) if you cant follow the well explained 'how to' sections - what do you expect people to do ?
5) learn to walk - before you try to run
6) no one can "learn" on your behalf
7) don't criticise people who know more than yourself - its pathetic
8) charity is a coat you wear - twice a year
9) there is no #9.
Buggs.... -
listen you dumbass... if you can read waht I asked... you'd understand that I did read the how tos... the isntructiosn these people gave me worked (for 3 movies)... and Im not bumping anything up... I only have my thread bookmarked... and I just post in it when I need help....
also, heard of saying stuff like "if yu cant say soemthin nice... dont say nething"?
So plz... no disrespect meant but... shut the **** up!
help me or dont say anything! -
dear oh dear,
such temper..................
oh - if " I " am such a 'dumbass' how is that YOU are the one having problems ?
:P
hmmmmmmmmmmmm............
Buggs.
PS: I will give you some quality advice though.
1) dont trust anything in TMPGE - double check all processed files for sound sync errors
2) dont de-multiplex the file unless you really have to
3) always have a fully defragmented hard disc
4) use windows XP
5) use a 7,200 rpm drive
6) expect creating SVCD to be a major headache - I gave up and only write DVD-Rs
7) learn everything 1st about the SVCD format BEFORE trying to write discs
hope I was of some help !!!!
and yeah - again - youre on the wrong forum !!! -
lol, it paues because you have lots of tracks and a pause after eery track!
back 2 my prob... that didnt help at all.... my question was... why does my audio syn mess up, whe i convert SOME avi files 2 mpg...
worked before... not anymore -
Important + for everyone using windows !!
i also had major problems with mpeg files not playing back properly etc etc etc
somehow, your windows system can get seriously messed up and start doing what seems like software specific problems..
if you get any problems which werent there before RE_INSTALL your complete O/S..
and do a hard disk format 1st - very important
I keep a backup of a 'GOOD' and clean windows installation, so i can restore it quickly at anytime....
try the above before wasting any more time............... -
great... so im going 2 have 2 format every 3 movies? plus i thought u knew what u were talkin about.. I defragmented my 80gig hd.. took 2 hour!!!!!!
-
>>great... so im going 2 have 2 format every 3 movies? plus i thought u >>knew what u were talkin about.. I defragmented my 80gig hd.. took 2 >>hour!!!!!!
LOL
welcome to the wonderfull world of windows !
I use 3 hard disks for video processing
disk a: operating system + apps only + temp folder for program use
disk b: raw video files ( mpeg, avi, etc )
disc c: destination for processed files, svcds or dvds
tip: reading and writing to and from same drive is very very slow, this can also cause sync errors, as data may not be in a continous stream..
buggs. -
in my opinion, its other way around... (i use 3 drives too)
if yer cuttin n pastin a 1gb file in same drive, it takes like 1-2 seconds... if you do in other drive, it takes like 45 seconds!
