Program by default

Good evening to everyone.

When I click twice on an icon of a video file the programa that runs the file is, by default, WINAMP.
I want it assumes automatically ( by default ) the program VLC.
What must I do?

Right click the icon => properties => Opens With (press the change button) => select VLC => OK and Apply

I did that but the default program continues WINAMP.

Must I reboot the PC?

Did you press apply?

In windows explorer (or any folder open), tools=>folder options=>file types tab=>select the file type => press change => select the program you want to open with (i.e. VLC) and checkmark the box "always use the selected program" => press ok

You can also configure in winamp to NOT associate those filetypes with winamp (is it .mp4?). Options=>preferences=>file types => unhighlight the file type.

Thanks, Poisondeathray, after all, your prescription worked. But the files still show the icon of winamp and the type
of the file is still "Winamp media file".
But with two clicks on the icon it runs automatically ( by default ) VLC.
