Is a good DVD-rip better quality than original VHS movie? What is the bitrate of VHS movies?

are you talking about divx or just a DVD that been put in DVD shrink.
-
DivX will probably look better if it is encoded at a high bitrate and the resolution is 640x480.VHS has a resolution equal to 320x240(VCD).
You will also have a cleaner picture converting a digital source to DivX instead of capturing a analog VHS source. -
Of course a divx file can contain the 5.1 audio if it has it. Something no vhs copy ever has - dolby pro logic being the best you can hope for.
Donatello - The Shredder? Michelangelo - Maybe all that hardware is for making coleslaw? -
It fully depends on the sources and recording quality. File formatting itself is completely meaningless.
