    Hey

first time poster and not sure how i can fix my problem. Recently i acquired an xvid file which if i play it through VLC player or MPlayer classic, theres a green vertical line on the left hand side and RGB is not mixed correctly. While running it through WMP10 theres only the RGB issue.

I used the VDUBs function of saving the avi as uncompressed and the problem was resolved, no green line no rgb problem. Is there anyway to resolve this problem without saving it as uncompressed because of the considerable size it takes.

Load the AVI file into GSpot and post an image here.

Here is a link on how to accomplish that: https://forum.videohelp.com/topic271697.html

It could be that there is something "odd" about this AVI file. So you begin there and then move on to other issues (if it turns out that the AVI is in fact A-OK).

Other issues could be codec "trouble" etc.

Did you try re-saving it to the Xvid format instead of uncompressed? I ask because you didn't mention trying another format. It also sometimes works just to save it in 'Direct stream copy' mode.

    And welcome to our forums.

sorry should have mentioned, i did try saving it other formats. For Xvid i get a msg say "stats file not found" and doesnt proceed. Using Divx6.11 codec it does compress it but the picture is pixelated.

Also here the GSpot info of the xvid file.

'Stats file not found' means your encoder was set up for two pass but you didn't make the first pass yet. The Stats file is generated on the first encoder pass and it sets up the encoder for the actual encode on the second or more passes. Try setting it for single pass with a Quantizer setting of between 2 to 3 and it should work.

But that may have nothing to do with your problems with the file.

tried that method, did compress but the RGB issue still occurs.
Is it possible to save it in uncompressed format and then compress it using some other third party software

I would suggest installing the latest version of the Xvid codec. It sounds like a version problem

  8. Looks to me to be a resolution problem. That XviD was made by an idiot. Your resolution is 664x282 and the 282 is Mod2 (only divisible by 2) where a decent encode would use at least mod8 and preferably mod16. To get rid of the green, resize to something like 664x280 (or better, 640x272).

My thoughts exactly which is why I wanted that GSpot image.

I had a funny feeling it was a resolution issue.

Need to resize and/or crop and re-encode.

  10. Some players deal better with wrong sized encodes. In my experience Divx Player (although I don't like it) can handle mod2 appropriately.
