We have two kinda old cd's that have several bad spots on them. Is there any software that can recover the good stuff automatically? For instance: can we set it up to run all night without human intervention? thanks

depends on what you call a "bad spot" and what is on the cd. some types have more error correction bits than others. a better description of the problem area might help.

Sorry about the brevity. A bad spot means that the file can't be read, copied or accessed at all. The CD contains sortware, images(jpg), mp3, avi, mpg, etc. All data no movies. Hope this helps.

check the cd for scratches and missing media layer. hold it in front of a light and check to see if there are any discolored or see-through regions.
warm water, mild soap and a cotton towel can help if it's stuff like food, fingerprints, dirt on the bottom. -
You can try data recovery software.Since your CD's data has been lost you should try CD recovery software.

This software is very easy to use and provides good recovery solution.
Download the demo version in which you will be able to see the preview of your recoverable file. After seeing the preview go for full version to complete your recovery.
