I have a 5 or 6 year old Sound Blaster Sound Card and have come across an unusual problem.
To start with I am using Cakewalk Pro 9.03 Audio Mixing software (Yes it is old - but it still works great)
anyway -- after loading a project in cakewalk I begin to add tracks to existing tracks for mixdown.
(PROBLEM!) - I just added a new track and and upon playback the new track starts out in perfect sync and after about 15 - 20 seconds it begins to sound early as opposed to drifting late. By the end of the song the new track is about 1 beat early. Something in the clock in/out is not in sync. Anyone out there every have this situation?
If it means replacing the card - I'm ready to do that, but would like to know why this happends as well.
Thanks
GT

Try bouncing down your tracks. Perhaps you've got too many for your CPU to handle. Also, is the added track at 44.1 or 48Khz sampling rate? That might play a part. Just guessing on all of this, BTW.

I just did a test in a new project and recorded track 1 drums
then recorded a shaker on track 2
the problem still exists.
