Source dvd is NTSC, 16:9, AC35.1 audio.
Pc is HP dual-core 3 ghz with 1 gb RAM, XP-Pro SP3. About 100 gb free on a 250 gb drive.
Using DvdShrink in re-author mode, I got my trimmed clips transcoded to a folder on hard-drive. The plan was to then (as I have successfully done before) use Vob2Mpg to create one long mpeg file, and use DvdAuthorGui to add chapter points and author to dvd.
Vob2Mpg ran for about 1 second, message "Finished processing 1 vobsets Duration 00:00:01"., file output was a 160 kb file (black clip).
When I used Shrink to output the files again, Vob2Mpg was successful.
Obviously, the first set of vob's was corrupt or non-compliant in some way. Does anyone know of a tool or process to verify what caused the failure, and possibly how to prevent it in future?
I'm using this process, because for some reason, muxman .15 AND .16.6 is giving me horrible results with these source files --- source has 5.1 ch ac3 audio, muxman's output audio is badly distorted and out of sync running further and further behind to the end of the video. One of the muxman encodes also had the video running fast, as though at maybe 35 fps instead of 29.97. This happened whether I demuxed the source files with DGI v 1.47, or with pgcDemux.
For all I know, these two problems are related in some obscure way......
Thanks for any advice ---

I don't think the issue is with the vobs, but best avoid using dvdshrink for clipping, it causes problems for certain audio types when trying to rejoin later.
Why not just use vob2mpg to do the entire process in one step, load the vobs in correct order, and append them, then mark what you want, and let it save in one go.
Rejig or ifoedit should be able to re-author those source files after. -
Hi BJs, thanks for responding
Question ---
then mark what you want, and let it save in one go.
How do I "mark what I want"?
I don't see any way in vob2Mpg to do anything but point it at the folder that contains the vob's you want to join, and give it a destination folder to save the output.
If I don't use DvdShrink to trim the vob's, I guess I could give a try to Cuttermaran or one of the other cutting tools I see recommended here in the forum. Do you have a recommendation?
I love using DvdAuthorGui for its simplicity --- I am a no-frills kind of gal
Muxman is even simpler, but for this dvd, it just doesn't get along well with the files!grannyGeek ~~

Ah, thats the one > Mpg2Cut2
Open vob file, then append each segment after each other in correct order.
Use [ to mark start position, and ] to mark end of segment, then up and left is a button with +, hit that.
You then go and find the next starting position of next segment, and hit [, find end and hit ], followed by the +
To save as single file > File, save all clips
Re-open new file, and use Mpg2Cut2 to demux it into seperate streams.
Use besweet to convert the demuxed audio stream to ac3, before authoring video and audio stream in dvdauthorgui
It works
