    Hi.

Like an idiot I purchased a set of Region 2 THE SAINT monochrome DVDs, thinking that there was a place in Vancouver to buy a multi-region DVD player. So far I haven't had any luck.

I have a Panasonic DVD S26 player - is there a hack for this to make it multi-region? Thank you!

  2. You can't unlock that player with the remote. Even if you could the discs are probably PAL and a Panasonic won't play them. I have a cheapo Philips I paid less than $30 for just to play other region PAL discs.

Thank you so much. I already have the S26 so thought I'd just ask. I'm totally willing to buy a different DVD player.

Can you tell me which model I could buy that I could just type in a code for from the remote and be able to play PAL as they are definitely PAL. Region 2. I need it simple and I've seen lots of posts from people who just say they typed in a code from the remote and set it for "no region" or whatever.

    Any help is much appreciated.

  4. The player I have is the Philips DVP 5960. It can be easily hacked with the remote to be all region and it plays PAL DVDs. I got a refurb on sale at Philips Outlet for $27 I think it was. I just saw the 3960 on Ben's Bargains for $40 or something like that. I think it was at Circuit City. I don't know if that would apply in Canada. I think the same hack works on the 3960 too. The hack is listed here in the DVD hacks on the left side of the screen. I just looked at Ben's, it was the 5982 at Philips Outlet but it looks like they're gone. My Philips player has got the worst menus and remote sensor I've ever seen on any electronics but it does play other region PAL DVDs.

Thanks for the info, Samijubal. I don't think we have the selection here in Canada that you do, I assume in the US. All we have is Future Shop and Best Buy and I couldn't locate any of those models online. For now I'm going to buy a Pioneer DV-300 multi-region player from a dealership here that stocks multi-region players. They have about 6 different models, the other 5 are Phillips, but he recommended the Pioneer.

I appreciate your input. Thank you.

  6. I'd take Pioneer over Philips. I only bought the Philips because it was dirt cheap. Last I knew you could buy Philips players at Wal Mart.

Well, I hope the Pioneer works well for many years. Thanks for your input.
