My father-in-law is here visiting from the Ukraine and I was wanting to see if it was possible to add russian subtitles to some of my existing DVD's. I didn't know if I could rip the dvd then run it through a program to add subtitles in russian, or a program that I could run the existing subtitle file through to change it to russian......
Try StreamFab Downloader and download from Netflix, Amazon, Youtube! Or Try DVDFab and copy Blu-rays! or rip iTunes movies!

see if you can find ukranian subs in srt form on the web,
or you'll have to write the,
translate yourself.
use subtitle workshop as a tool"I'll give you five dollars if you let me throw a rock at you" -
Guys, I have tried this but it didn't work. I'm sure I'm missing something. I downloaded all the tools, but I think I'm mssing step number one, where do I find the subtitle file from the dvd once I have ripped it with DVDFab5?

The subs in the existing DVD? I guess you didn't read Baldrick's guide at the link 45tripp provided. You demux the movie using PGCDemux, and among the files you'll get will be the sub(s) in SUP format. They won't be in SRT format. Those are text based and non-DVD compliant, although many authoring programs are capable of converting SRT subs into DVD subs.

I have the sup and srt files now. What I'm trying to do now is use the google translator Subtitle Creator provides to translate them into russian, but it just gives me an error.

Do I have to find the subtitles in russian before this will work??

you realise of course a google translation will probably need a lot of gramatical editing
it may be less frustrating just translating line for line,
then again the last time i did it, i couldn't watch the film after, because i'd memorized the dialogue.
