  1. I've got a Vista Basic computer so I dont have Media Center or DVD Maker to create DVD's with so I just stuck it in clicked burn and burnt a few videos. I Went downstairs and put it in my DVD player and it said invalaid.
What can I do to make the DVD work with my DVD player

The disc I used is a Maxell DVD+R 4.7GB and it can hold up to 2Hours of video.

What is a good system to use for making a DVD I CAN play on my DVD player and what are the requirments for it to play?

First of all you need to let us know what type you burnt. If they were just data files like .mpg or .avi in divx or xvid type you wouldn't be able to play them on just any dvd player. You'd need a "divx" capable dvd player to play them and then only ones that meet the players requirements.

You need to "author" files to dvd compliant formats in order for them to play properly on most dvd players.

Check out "what is dvd" in the guides on the left of the screen for more basic information:

Also there are detailed steps to take in making a dvd - you need an AUTHORING program like Tmpgenc Dvd Author to make a compliant dvd. Here is the guide section:

You can also connect your computer to the tv depending on what type of connections you have. You don't have to have media center to use your computer on your tv. It is just a nicer interface designed for tv. You can use a svideo cable, a vga cable, a dvi cable, or a dvi-hdmi adapter to connect the computer to the tv. It all depends on the capabilities of your graphics card and what type of tv you have (if you don't have an hdtv you'll need to use the standard definition rca or svideo cables instead).

You can also use gspot or avicodec to identify the type of video files you are trying to burn. We need more details on the process you used to determine what steps you might be missing or suggest a new approach.

  3. Read "what is DVD".

    Read conversion guides.

    Supply more information.

Video must be DVD-compatible, then authored. DVD player will not just handle anything you throw in there, think about it, you have to install codecs and players for your PC to do this, the DVD player has no such ability to modify its software.
