I am getting ready to shoot a short movie on a Panasonic DVX, and was wondering, when it's time to transfer the footage to my computer, what the best method would be. Ultimately this short movie will be shown on a large theater screen, and I think the people running the theater asked for it burnt onto a DVD. Normally, with my Sony Handycam I just plug it into the Firewire card in my computer and use a program called Ulead to capture the footage. The footage does not look amazing, but I always contributed that to the fact that the Handycam isn't the greatest camera.
I guess my question is - does the program I'm using effect the quality of the picture when I capture it from camera to computer? Is there a chance my capture program Ulead is downgrading the quality of the image? Naturally I want to retain the quality of the image being captured from the Panasonic DVX, but at the same time I want a compromise between a manageable file size and good quality. Does anyone have any suggestions/advice? Thanks!
Josh
