Anyone swapped out one of the Packard Bell BDR-L08 burners with something else? I can't even find specs on that drive. The old PB forum suggested that the drive was a rebadgered NEC drive but there was no followup to see if it could be replaced. I bought 2 950-Ss off Ebay recently for a grand total of $2.24 + shipping. The units work great other than their burners are crapped out. Both units look like customer returns that no one took the time to return to Daytek for burner replacement. Heck, the remotes alone cost me $35 each and now I have 3 of them. I must put the codes out onto the net sometime as they are unique to those units and other than the Harmony remotes, unavailable. Of course, I don't even need the burners as the drives can be removed and put into a computer and read directly but I might like to burn a disc or two without having to take the machine apart.
