  1. bilbogod, I can tell you my old Pioneer DV525 can play VCD's with 48khz Audio, i've lately been doing all my movies like this, cause I found no size incresement, and I figured since most (if not all) DVD Authoring require you to have 48khz, it will be more "future" proof if I ever move my VCD's to DVDR's

  2. Well I used to get this kind of slightly metallic squeeky sound which only went away when I changed back to 48000Hz. I dont know how many players will support this for vcd, but you'd think that a lot could since this is the standard for dvd.....

  3. I love the idea of this format but the only draw back for me is that it wont even play on my eclipse dvd, xwave & cyberhome dvd players that are in my house... please tell me if I will ever get them to work, followed what U said about nero but it wont work!!!

    Help me!

    Kev!

  4. P@inkiller I have an Eclipse 695 DVD form Richer Sounds and I got this format to work on it today... I just did the demultiplex and multiplex (with non standard vcd selected) and switched off the standard compliancy box that popped up on my Nero 5.5.5.1 Worked perfectly....

  6. I'll give your templates a go a soon as I can..
A quick thought, would it be worth upping the audio to 256kbit/s for movies that are closer to 1.5 hours than 2 hours ?

    cheers,

    Col.

  7. Urm, I guess you could give it a try yeah, but I wouldnt do 256, only 224, which is VCD standard.

  12. P@inkiller I haven't tried Sefys' template yet. I will when I get some time. Btw mate, this is totally irrelevent to this thread but since we've both got the same player I thought I would give you a tip. If you downsample from 48000Hz to 41000Hz which is standard for S/vcd conversions then don't. Disable this in DVD2AVI and TMPGenc or whatever other programs you use, run it as before through an external decoder like Toolame, I found the difference in sound quality stunning.
Btw folks I find it highly amusing that there have been well over 10,000 views on topics of this matter within the last week. This suggests that there are more than just a handful of us individuals who are interested in the outcomes :P
Cyberimage26 - I'm currently in the process of making the best DivX I can of Platoon (1hr 54 mins) in order to run it through on your templates. I'll let you know what the outcome is.
p.s. Good old Sean, has stepped in now on my little thread:-

    silab,

I had sound problems with my standalone VCD with 128 kbits/sec.
Make a test: take a short blahblah.mpg and keep 44100 Hz and CHANGE audio settings to 160 kbits/sec AND after 192 kbits/sec.
It worked fine for me (on my standalone VCD) instead 128 kbits/sec.
    Good luck.
    Bye

  15. Actually Bilbo I am skeptical wether or not Platoon will fit onto 1 CD because the CQ_VBR thingo will automatically keep it at the highest possible bitrate because throughout the entire movie it is filled with action, thus increasing the file size.. but who knows, worth a shot I guess (that movie really does deserve SVCD though :P) ..

  16. I just gave your template a try. I used it on Starwars Episode 1 (DVD Rip) with only a couple small changes to the template and it easily put all 133 minutes on a single CD.

It worked nicely, it looks as good as most of what can be downloaded from various sources and much better than I expected.

  17. cybermage26, I remember you mentioned it somewhere, but since I'm too lazy
can you remind me of the following settings you used ?
Video Bitrate Min and Max and the Audio Bitrate

if possible can you email me the Templates, i'm curious as for the quality and if it works on the Pioneer 525 I have

  18. what the hell? i hope u are not trying to intentionally piss me offa nd mock what i do!!!!

This is almost the same method as i made in my vcd-x guide.

The only difference, he uses a Smaller bitrate, the WRONG encoding stream, and a filter than will make the movie look worse!!!

I know i never sent the vcd-x guide to vcdhelp cuz nobody believed me, but everyone believes him, what a crock of shit.

If u wanna see what real quality looks like on 1 cd, do this even for vcd-

do NOT use soften block noise EVER on a TS, TC, cam, SCR, WP, or DVD-SCR for one,
2nd, when u encode the movie using cq_vbr, NEVER use quality of 20, the entire movie gets shitty.

Always use quality of either 58 or 63.
To find out your max bitrate, do this-
use my calc, get the cbr max vid bitrate.
Add exactly 100 to that number u get and that is your max bitrate using quality 58 or 63, min is 0.

3rd, after encoding, you NEVER demux and remux, doin that will cause vid\aud to go outta sync, this is what u do.

Go into merge and cut and choose mpeg-1 videocd non standard.

Now, that is the REAL way of my VCD-X guide let alone additional little quality tricks and a faq and troubleshooting in there as well.

The svcd guide to this is pretty awesome.

I cant remember if i have said this but i have got down the dvd ripping to svcd now.
My last test proved to fit 97 min in what has been told to me by 2 people so far as outstanding, unbelievable quality onto 1 cd.
I have just recently started using the new tmpgenc 2.52 plus and i tell u what, USE IT WISELY!!!!!
    It works!!!!

Note- the following is my opinion, whether this is wise to say or not, give feedback.

I just encoded Bones DVD using new pass, 0 min ave-1059 max 1500. filesize- RIGHT at the mark for 80 min cd before overburn.
The ave cbr value in my calc was 1059, thats why ave was 1059.

This new 2 pass vbr is SWEET

Anyways, back me up on this note-

I believe when dl movies made from cam, ts, tc,vhs scr- we should use CQ_VBR.
the reason why i say that is cuz its already nowhere near dvd so why use 2 pass?
    Anyone agreeing with me?
The only things i would see using 2 pass vbr new type on is the following-
    DVD
    DVD-SCR
Captured video from tv tuner or dv

Everyday is another payday and I am one step closer to becoming the one.

  19. Well personally I've not yet done the encoding on my DivX through TMPGenc yet. I will try all available methods on this thread and others to see what is what. Btw - Cyberimage26 - I normally do 3 cd DVD2SVCD's and wouldn't think of relagating a classic like Platoon onto 1 cdr. This just happens to be the only dvd that I currently have to hand so we'll see what happens.
Sean - Good to see you putting forward a few methods on the table. Will wait in anticipation for the expected responses

    Cyberimage26 said:

got no idea if these settings are the same used on CVCD and Sefys template, I didnt really check, and for those that will say I stole this I dont give a damn.
Sean, looks like you should have got in there earlier.... Still I guess you can always be the next to come forward with a downloadable video clip in my thread or this one....

  20. Well I've had my first success & first hick so far I've been able 2 put scary movie & all the extras on an 80 min cd wich is about 98 mins but to put a 2 hour film on a disk is a problem as it wont fit!!!

the film in question is The Princess diaries film last 1hr 51 mins & thats cutting the credits so I think I'm pushing things, by the way this was to an 80 min cd aswell. Shame!! anyone wanna help coz I dont really want 2 buy a 99min cd to do it like..

    Cheers Kev!

Do you think you could put all your settings out in the *.mcf template format for us? This would stop a lot of what's goin' on here. I would be glad to give it a try just like we tried all the other templates. You can e-mail to me or have the VCDHelp put it in the Template guides.

Sure Hope you can do this........

  23. im sorry to say this but i do not make templates anymore and the reason i will give u an hopefully agree with me on

Each movie is either different time lengths or different quality
VBR, CQ and CQ_VBR rely on the quality of the clip to set the bitrate.

So lets say u got a 90 min dvd and a 90 min cam.
If i made 1 template for both of those, the 90 min cam clip would have a definite smaller file size.
Let alone the other factors involved such as sharpening, clip frame and so on....

With that said, thats why i make guides, not temps anymore.
The SVCD guide i hve is exactly 15 pgs long.
Sorry for length but it goes in detail about gettin the best and pics to show what is needed.
However, the last update to this guide was using tmpgenc 2.02 and not tmpgenc 2.52 plus so i need to update it again because 2.52 plus produces better quality and smaller file sizes!

  24. Yeah, no shit sean...

If you actually want to help people to do something useful, then post your damn templates on the net. Otherwise shut the **** up about you and your god damn svcd-x guide.

It's ******* bullshit. See how everyone else sends their templates to VCDHelp and they get posted? Makes a world of sense doesn't it?

I think you're just completely full of shit and don't know a god damn thing about encoding.

u know, when i posted many many months ago that i was doing all of my XVCDs with a 48khz audio and that i theorized that most DVD players could probably play XVCDs with 48khz audio, most people thought otherwise. interesting to see opinions are changing...

I dont help people with contraversy

And of course, i see u think my guide is shit, well thats funny cuz it seema to me that u never im-ed me but everyone that has, loves it

anything is possible if you're willing to put up with a lower quality VCD! i did "the mummy returns", 130 minutes, and got it all on one 80 min disc. it looks crappy on my TV but OK in a teeny weeny window on the PC.

the movie was a netflix rental in full screen/panscan format! (i hate panscan!) anyway, i think the settings were something like,
mpeg-1, 352x240 (obviously), CQ_VBR 0-900 qual=50, audio=44.1khz@64kbps, "MPEG-1 VideoCD (nonstandard)". i'll probably redo it using the widescreen version of the movie (encodes "better").

anyone interested in buying a one disc, panscan XVCD of "the mummy returns"?

Sean you are ******* hilarious! You get sooo worked up about nothing.
Sure, I'll "front you bitch front" - whatever the **** that means.
    I'm guessing you're what - about 13 years old?

Get a ******* brain. If you want people to think of you as the "Video Performance Master", you need to show them that you know what you're talking about.

Acting like a ******* juvenile that doesn't know shit about how to distribute something on the internet, people just think you are some dumb **** that doesn't have a clue. Nobody wants to IM you you stupid ****.

I'm not saying your guide isn't good.
I'm sure if people could actually get it, they'd love to try it out.

However, not everyone on the internet uses AOL instant messenger.
And guess what? Some people don't even like to use MSN Messenger.

Some of us have gotten beyond our teen years now, and are more interested in the technical aspects of the internet. We don't want to run this little kiddy shit for chatting on the net.

See the little button above my post?
    The one that says "EMAIL"?

If you're so dead set against putting your guide on the net, then email it to me and all the other ******* people on this site like you said you would.
Then one of us will take it and put it on our own website.

It just makes no ******* sense.
If you don't post it on the net someone else will - I guarantee it.
(That is - if it's worth the ******* bandwidth)
You're just making enemies real fast with no apparent purpose.

  29. i dont make enemies

I am not making anyone mad for the first impression
People get worked up cuz i dont have my web server turned on right now and one of the mods refused to let me send the guide cuz at the time they didnt believe me without seeing it AND the last time i posted a guide, someone stole my ideas and made a guide based off mine and i got sick of it.

I cant make enemies if u are not willing enough to get the guide.

I'm sorry but email is slower than IM-ing

If u dont have time to im, u certainly aint got time to read a guide

  30. If someone wants to take the concepts in your guide and improve upon them, that's great!

How does distributing it over IM and not via the web protect you?
It doesn't. Someone will still get your guide and make it better.

That's the whole point behind this website and this forum.
You are sharing your ideas. If someone else uses those concepts and can improve upon them, then they should.

You would still get the "credit" for this guide.
And if you happen to be the person to come up with better ideas, then you will also be credited with those ideas.

However, doing what you're doing just slows the whole process down (and pisses people off).

I've been waiting since all the hype started a few weeks ago for this guide, and I'm still waiting. I've got gigabytes of movies waiting to be encoded, because I want to figure out the best way to fit them onto 1 disc.

So I'll just continue to wait until that day when someone copies your guide and makes it better, then puts it in the PUBLIC DOMAIN for everyone to use.
