I wasn't sure if this belonged here or in the Capturing section, sorry if that was the case.
My laptop, an HP Pavilion dv1000, has a built in firewire port and I have used this successfully to capture videos in the past. But for a month now it's been on and off, and right now it's just off. Previously when it hasn't worked I've tried a number of things that I thought made it work again, but soon after it was back to not.
I've used a few different apps to capture with no luck, but they all have the exact same problem. In windv, windows movie maker and videostudio the device is recognized by them, by the OS itself and by the camera which reports "DVin". But when I want to begin the capture in windv it freezes, and in both movie maker and videostudio both say that they are capturing but when I stop the capturing they say that the captured video is corrupted. Both videostudio and moviemaker are able to control the camera, play, stop fast forward etc, but I just can't capture with them.
So I'm wondering if anyone has encountered something similar and can guide me to a solution. I've already tried vcswap to disable some codecs (this worked in the past), removed and reinstalled the driver, and as recent as yesterday I've wiped the system clean and still the same issue.
