Try FAVC. Use the VCD setting. You might be able to fit 10 hours on a disc, although the quality will be sub-VHS.

The store disc you saw must have been a DVD-9 disc. Otherwise, the image quality would be terrible.

Is it possible to do this? Yes. Is it possible to do this in Ulead? Probably not.
You'll have to set the bit rate VERY low, below VCD. Unless you don't care if looks like crap, you'll need to do the following, none of which you'll be able to do in Ulead.

    1) Reduce the resolution to VCD resolutions (352x240 for PAL video or 352x240 for NTSC).
    2) Reduce the audio bit rate to 224 Kbps or less.
    3) Use a video bit rate of 750 Kbps (my calculator says you can use 792, but I'd advise going a little lower so you don't exceed the size of the disc).

Can you do this? Yes. Can you do it in Ulead? No. Can you do it easily in another program? Not one that I know of.

  5. Would ConvertXToDVD work for his situation? As stated, the quality will not be great but it should be able to squeeze what he wants on a disc.

  7. ConvertXToDVD will take mostly anything you throw at it and compress it for you. I've never tried putting that much one one disc but I put 3-4 hours on a SL disc before and it works.

Actually, come to think of it, animations are not nearly as high in fluidity as live-motion video. They also have fewer frame-per-second changes, and far fewer color and shade gradations. Therefore, the image quality of anime programs should hold up quite well with a lot of compression. A good variable bitrate mpeg2 encoder could probably squeeze as much as 8 to 10 half-hour anime programs onto a DVD-5 without looking terribly crappy. But I would still venture to guess that the store-bought Naruto is on a DVD-9.

The problem with animation is that they have a lot of edges and lines, and at low bitrates you get a low of mosquito noise (inherent in mpeg compression). You also tend to get a lot of blocking and banding in the flat areas, although if your player supports deblocking you might be OK.

Put the episodes on 2 discs, get much better quality.Only drawback is you gotta change the disc after 5 hours of watching.
