I have an older HDTV that doesn't have HDMI... I use component.

My question is whether upconverting DVD players only upconvert over HDMI. Are there any that will upconvert to 1080i over component?

I might even ask that if these DVD players only upconvert through HDMI, is there a dongle to convert the HDMI to component?

    Thanks

My JVC XV-N650 player upscales to 1080i or 720p over analog component and works very well except most commercial DVDs will revert back to 480p. This is typical of most upscaling players.

It also plays Divx/XVid/MPeg2 directly and converts a PAL DVD to NTSC .

I have this player hooked up to my "HD Ready" CRT HDTV.

  4. Hmm, my Philips DVP 3962 only upscales over HDMI. I too thought HDMI was it. Are there more than a mere handful that can do it over component?

As an aside, the upconversion does a very good job. I can play the same DVD from my HTPC, either disc or ISO, to my 42" plasma (720P), and it doesn't look nearly as good. I'm guessing that is not always the case, and some TVs have better scaling filters than mine?

I haven't found a display card yet that matches a good DVD player especially for 1080i.
