Hiya, im making a compilation DVD from a few DVDs i already have, ive copied the ISO's & have the rough start&end points i want to cut out.
At the moment ive been converting the ISO to an mp4 with Handbrake, using Avidemux to cut out segments, then using DGIndex to convert to m2v for use with GUIforDVDAuthor, but this loses alot of quality, there must be some way of cutting straight from the ISO and keeping a VOB or m2v file of the extracted segment to keep it DVD quality?
Thanks in advance for any help
Peace

DVD Shrink can do this. Open the first ISO, click on ReAuthor, drag the title to the left-hand pane, then right-click on it and chose Select Start and End Points. You can edit by chapter or down to the I-frame level. Open the next ISO and add to the list. Once you have all of the clips, use Backup to create a new DVD with all the clips in it as separate titles.
If you want a menu you can use the VOBs or demux and use the content (VOB2MPG can do this). No conversion, so no quality loss.
If you need more accurate editing then you need a proper mpeg editor such as videoredo.Read my blog here.

Thanks that sounds great as i already use DVD Shrink for getting a VOB from the ISO's.
Do i need the exact start & end points or can i actually preview & mark in DVDShrink aswell?

Thanks man thats awesome, DVDshrink is a great prog!
Hopefully it all runs smoothly when i try it out at home...
This should work well for me because when im making youtubevideos or videos for my ipod i was using the ISO in handbrake to convert to mp4, then cutting the chapter with Avidemux, creating another mp4, then converting that cut mp4 with Videora because my ipod didnt like the Avidemux mp4's. So i was converting 3 times & losing lots of quality.
Now i should be able to just use the ISO with DVDshrink, take out the chapter i want, then just use that VOB in videora to get an mp4 from it? Or use VOB2MPG if that does mp4?
And of course for making my compilation DVD i can use ISO in DVDshrink again, then use the VOB's with DGIndex to get m2v/ac3 that i can author with. Awesome!

As long as DVDShrink lets me extract segments of the dvd, and i then have VOB files i can use from there to either convert to ipod, or use to demux (w/VOB2MPG/DGIndex) then use in GUI to create a compilation...im good...
To get a menu on a DVD before i used DVDShrink to create a whole VOB, then demuxed with DGIndex, then created a main menu/title with GUI & it worked fine, im just taking a step further & creating a compilation now.
Also the ipod videos i came out with before were bad quality cause i was converting the ISO to mp4 with handbrake, then extracting a segment with Avidemux, then converting to ipod again (cause my itunes doesnt like the Avidemux mp4's) but now i can hopefully just use DVDshrink to create the segment/VOB and then use that segment as i wish, for compilation or ipod...

I think the best way for me to do it is to just use DVDShrink with my ISO to take out the segment i want, creating a VOB from it for each segment, each time just do one segment. Then use VOB2MPG to get an mpg from each segment.
So then with the mpg i can either use it with GUI & make compilation DVD's, or i can use the mpg to make ipod videos...
Pretty sure im getting it
Thanks! -
Cool, im using DVDShrink now to extract the segment but its a bit hard to get the end point right as when your watching in the bottom left it doesnt tell you what frame or time you are at so im not sure where to set the "end" without just looking at the picture & movement?
There must be a way to set the end to or start to where you are currently watching?
