  1. Ok.....so I downloaded Scarface the movie. It's a 750 MB file and was supposed to open...
Unfortunately to my regrets, after downloading 11 hours it was unable to open in Windows Media Player (vers. 6.4.07)

I got the following error code:
"No combination or filters could be found to render the stream"

So I checked the movie's properties and it said:
    MPEG Layer-3,96 kBit/s, 48,000 Hz, Stereo
    640 x 480, 24 bits, 244636 frames, 23,976 frames/sec, 74 kB/sec, DIVXMPG4 V3

So I figured I needed the MPEG 4 plugin for Divx. I checked and it was already installed: quoted from the mpg 4 fix:
You should now be able to play files in mpeg4 v1,2 and 3 format.
The other filters and codecs I have installed are (in alphabetical order):

    AngelPotion Video Codec
    Divx 3.11 Alpha
    Divx 4.02
    Kristal Studio Pack
    Nimo Codec Pack

If that would be of any help to answer the question.

I also tried rebuilding the index using DivxFix, thank god I copied it before I tried, cause it stopped at the second progress dash, turning my 750 movie into a 3 minute 11 MB movie.....

I have absolutely no clue at all now anymore what I can try....
I downloaded several Divx MPEG 4 filters, of which all are saying they support V1, 2 and 3 as well as not to overwrite it if it says a newer version exists....So I'm sure I have the newest one installed....

Real Player does play it, but it crashes very often and runs unstable
Power DVD doesn't play it all....
The Player only plays the first three seconds then not at all

So Anyone please help me out....I haven't been waiting 11 hours for nothing....And I need to have Scarface...So Please oh please help me out...I'm out of options here....If there's anything you need to know just tell me...[/b]

  2. Personaly I think you installed too many codecs, I suggest you uninstall all of them till when you try playing it won't detect any codecs in the system, then just install the Kristal Studio, i found it to be the best and plays the highest variation of DivX encoded files.

  3. uhmmm....did you know that DIVXMPG4 V3 is for the Matrox G400/G450 and GeForce cards which have a problem displaying divx movies with a width that is not a multiple of 32? Do you use those video cards? I would uninstall every single one of those codecs, reboot, and install divx 3.22b alpha ( http://www.divx-digest.tv/software/codec/divx_322b.zip ) ...try it. For some reason a lot of folks these days who put their movies on the net encode with this....why? I don't know....is it better than divx 4.xx? Couldn't tell you I'm into unravelling these monstrositys to convert to xVCD for TV viewing. If the divx 3.xx doesn't do the trick then load Nimo Codec pack back in...to save you a lot of heart ache in the future don't load divx 4.xx as part of the Nimo Codec pack as it will automatically be used to view divx 3.xx and they are NOT always compatible. get the stand alone installer for divx 4.xx here -->
http://download.divx.com/divx/DivX412Codec.exe and when it ask if you want it to play the divx 3.xx stuff JUST SAY NO In the future, as a rule of thumb, use the least amount of codecs possible. If you need to have a large amount of codecs installed, try using a codec handler like graph edit
    Best of Luck

Not applicapable on my situation since I'm using a Rage videocard.
I would uninstall every single one of those codecs, reboot, and install divx 3.22b alpha
Your link wasn't working but I found it elsewhere anyway. I uninstalled EVERY codec on my computer and then rebooted. I installed the 3.22 codec and tried to open the movie once more. Instead of the "No combination or filters could be found to render the stream" I now got to read "Class is not registered"
If the divx 3.xx doesn't do the trick then load Nimo Codec pack back in...to save you a lot of heart ache in the future don't load divx 4.xx as part of the Nimo Codec pack as it will automatically be used to view divx 3.xx and they are NOT always compatible.
So I did as well. Again tried the movie....and again class is not registered.
get the stand alone installer for divx 4.xx here -->
http://download.divx.com/divx/DivX412Codec.exe and when it ask if you want it to play the divx 3.xx stuff JUST SAY NO
OK, I installed the 4.02 codec, which should be about the same, just a little little older. I presume there is no striking difference in the codecs which would affect it working or not. ANyway, after isntalling that, I still got to see "class not registered." I know about "n the future, as a rule of thumb, use the least amount of codecs possible.", at least now I do. But I just have too many movies in too many codecs. So I have to I guess...I then tried "then just install the Kristal Studio", but once again still the "class was not registered"

And even after installing the MPEG 4 fix, it still said class not registered, while it used to say "No combination or filters could be found to render the stream" with the same pack of codecs installed....

So Now I am TOTALLY lost....Not a clue.....I sure hope someone could help me out, but I'll prepare myself for the worst....

  5. And maybe this could be of any relevance...I just found it out:
When checking the properties of the movie, and going to the tab "preview" it only plays the first three seconds then stops. When I select play once more it says (roughly translated):

MMSYSTEM296 The file cannot be played on the MCI-device, The file is possibly damaged.

Now I think it's very conspicuous that it only plays the same three seconds, as when I try to rebuild its index using DivxFix....

However, I'm kinda sure as well that the file must work cause I asked about 10 people, with the same movie of the same size whether they were working for them or not. And ALL replied yes, it's working???
I think it's different on every computer...

But if it's true that the file isn't damaged, isn't there a way for me to convert it into another format? For example first make it mpeg, then make it avi, divx again?!? Or is the an even faster way? Like converting the file immediately into another divx format??

  6. When you downloaded the file, did you have any resuming in the download ? DivX files are vern sensative to that kind of thing.

PS: Always uninstall your older codecs, reboot, and then install the new ones!
