using Vegas 8 Pro, rendering to MPG2 (for DVD) a 2 hr project mixed with AVI and MPG files.. no effects at all in the project. takes about 10-11hrs to render.
then i take that MPG2 file and put it into DVD Architect and no menu, added just chapters, and that takes now 6hrs to complete and burn to DVD.
why does this take so long is it normal? why does dvd architect have to render again? should i create the chapters in vegas instead by using Markers? will this get by the re-render process of dvd arcitect?
i read that in the project properties the pixel formatting should be 32 bit instead of 8 bit? will this make a differnce?
mind you i used vegas 6 and 7 and have done a ton of projects from DV (camcorder source) with effects etc, and never had to wait 12hrs for render... is this a totally different ballgame here though? i mean is it because of my source files?

12 hours seems excessively long on your system, however everything on the timeline is being encoded, so it won't be quick.
DVD Architect re-encodes if your video/audio doesn't match exactly what your project settings are. Something doesn't match - could be format, could be bitrate. You will have to go over them all and see what is missing.Read my blog here.

the one thing i found strange was in Vegas the project properties were set to NTSC widescreen, and after the render the MPG2 filesize was 3.7GB ... when I load that into DVD arcitect it tells me that the filesize was 7.8GB so it had to re-encode to make it fit to a 4.7GB disc.. why is that?

what should i save the audio as in vegas for rendering to MPG2? PCM, AC3, mp3 etc... to make it not re-encode in DVD Arcitect? when i open dvd arcitect and create new project NTSC widescreen no menu single movie based, there are 3 audio options.. whicih should I choose? the final product i want on a 4.7GB dvd.

i think the last project i didnt select the NTSC widescreen DVD arcitect template, that's why it re-encoded when loading the MPG2 file into DVA?
so now i selected (for my new project same method using AVIs and MPG files , no effects, 2 hrs of video) NTSC DVD Arcitect template.. best rendering, 31 (highest video quality), average bitrate at 6,000 max 9,200. the rendering is taking 17hrs!!!
if i choose same template and set it to Good rendering and slide down to 15 video quality and 4,200 average bitrate.. time to finish rendering to MPG2 is same roughly 17hrs!
how come it takes so long with my PC.. it has to be the video sources files right? because i import my camcorder DV into vegas and create a 2hr video, render that in like 4hrs max.
is this the case, the video source files (which are all different sizes, codecs etc) are causing the render time to be that high? -
yep
it will always re-render when it's not DVD compliant
like you said, you've got all different sizes and types
make them all compliant first then drop them in -

Unless you need to do a lot of editing and need to use the other features that Vegas has, you are using the wrong tools. DVD Flick (if you want to put different material on a single track) or FAVC (if you want a different title for each clip) would be much better choices.
