I tried burning a set of vob files, with subtitles already embedded in, using Nero Burning ROM 6. I selected the DVD-Video option. I seem to have sort of lost the subtitles in the process. When I say sort of, what I mean is that I can't view the subtitles when playing the dvd in a dvd player, but I can access them when I play the individual files in VLC media player.

I'm trying to figure out whether this is a problem with the burning software, the dvd player or whether I'm just doing something wrong. Any pointers? Thanks

Did you choose the dvd-video option and added all the vob,ifo and bup files to the video_ts folder?
Have you tried enable the subtitles using the remote control or in the menus or in the dvd player setttings? They may not be enabled by default.

Yes, the ifo and bup files were included. Forgot to mention that.

There is a button on the remote control labelled "subtitle". Usually, by pressing it, I can switch between different languages, and turn the subtitles off. With this dvd, "Off" appears to be the only option.

How exactly did you burn it with Nero ? If you loaded the DVD into recode it may have removed the subtitles. Try burning the original folder with Imgburn instead.

I opened up Nero Burning Rom. I selected "DVD Video", and then clicked "new". After that, I right-clicked, and selected the video_ts folder located somewhere in my C: drive. Then I started burning.

I might try that. Problem is I don't have the original DVD right now, just the VOB, IFO and BUP files. Does that matter?

Anyway, I've downloaded Imgburn. Do I just click "Create Image file from files/folders", click "Browse for folders", select the video_ts folder and then click "build"? (There are some tabs like "options" and "advanced" and I'd like to be sure whether I should make some changes there or leave it as is.)

    Thanks for your help

Keep the defaults and let Imgburn work out the rest for you.

You can open the files you have in DVD Shrink and it will tell you if you have any subtitle streams.

I ran dvd shrink, and took a screenshot of the results.

English (and other languages) appear more than once. Could that be what is causing the problems?

No. You can have multiple subtitles tagged with the same languages.

You should be able to use the subtitle button on your remote to change subs.
