Did you replaced it with a brand spanking new 80 wire ide cable? Last resort is to install it into another computer. If that doesn't work then buy a new PIONEER dvd burner.

That's a very good question budz asks. Just recently I had some drive problems and replaced 80 wire cable with another 80 wire cable that was removed from an old system only to have the problem persist. Then replacement with new 80 wire cable fixed the problem. If you get a new drive and if the cable is the cause, then the new drive will obviously not work either.

  3. Oh yeah, I replaced it with a new cable from radio shack. The only difference is, the new one is longer ( I didn't think about the size until I matched the 2 up). It's still doing the same thing. As before, it plays DVD's, it just still doesn't recognize blank DVD's and it doesn't burn new DVD's.

Then your laser is dead as a door nail. Buy yourself a new PIONEER 115D or 116 drive.

  6. I just found out today from a friend the same thing, Laser is out. Planning on buying another one. I was looking for suggestions on which one to get, and thanks for bringing up Pioneer. That's what I'll be looking for.

  7. To everyone helping me with this problem on my DVD burner, THANKS.
To anyone curious about the solution for future knowledge, really simple. the laser on the DVD wasn't working. I put in a new Pioneer DVD burner, and it works great!!!
THANKS for recommending the Pioneer. Great price and so far, working great. Lost my trust in NEC.
    Take care. all.
    Andrew.

  8. My NEC 3500 is well over 4 years old and still works like day one. I'll be amazed if the Pioneer lasts that long. The Pioneer 115 I've had for 8 months or so has made over half a dozen coasters already, the NEC made 1 in over 4 years. Pioneer is no NEC.

I still have all my Pioneer dvd burners working here since the DVR-104...
Olny one of two DVR-107 got wreck by an accident (some may know, DVDRW hi-speed burning was tested with a tuned fw and wrecked the drive...).
