I´ve have been trying and trying to catch up a bit on the differences between disk images made on Mac and Windows, but to no avail.

Are there ANY type of images that can be exchanged between the two machines and that have the capasity for both platforms to create them, mount eachothers images and burn to disk for storage and then getting a clean copy of the disk image when extracting from the DVD?

Many people like to create disk images for sharing on bittorrent and its crucial that both machines fully "understands" the format and behaves the same way otherwise they wont connect on the network.

If you're talking about DVD-Video in a disk image, then don't. The protocol is fine with folders and files, and so are the users on the other side of the line. Using disk images is just an extra step in which to make additional errors.

However, sometimes disk images are used anyway, and they tend to be .ISO files (which suffix is even more generic and non-descriptive than .toast is for Toast users). Disk images for DVD-Video should be in UDF 1.02 file system (not ISO 9660), to allow burning directly from the image file. Renaming a valid .toast image to .iso (and vise versa) should work.

I store a lot of video in IMG format. For making these images on the Mac side, I created a simple droplet called DVD Image Utility. You simply drop the entire DVD folder onto the droplet, and it will make the image for you. These images can be read/opened in Windows and Linux.

    Get DVD Image Utility here.
