  1. I have a lot of AVI files with an incorrect aspect ratio. 4:3 videos that need to be 16:9 and 16:9 videos that need to be in 4:3. There's even some that need to be 5:4. Is there any way to change the aspect ratio in AVI files without re-encoding? It sounds simple enough but I'm not sure. Any help would be appreciated.

Along the same line, I have a number of DVD's, VOB files, MPEG2 files, etc that also have an incorrect aspect ratio and don't display properly. In these cases, I know it's possible to change it and correct the aspect ratio, but the question is how. Is there a relatively simple way to do it? Any help or advice on this would be very much appreciated as well.

Thanks a lot in advance to anyone who helps.

  2. You can use MPEG4Modifier for most AVI files.

If it is just for playback you can adjust custom aspect ratios in most software players

Another option is to put it into an .mkv container with mkvmergegui, and specify your aspect ratio there

As for DVD's, you can also use some software players to adjust aspect ratio for playback purposes, otherwise I think you have to re-encode and reauthor them if you want a permanant change.
