EDIT: Admin, could you delete this post please?! Thanks.

Hi, this is my first post so go easy on me. I did try and research this but could not find an answer to my problem (although I'm sure theres going to be a really simple solution).

So I'm using GOTSENT to convert High Definition 720p MKV files to MP4 for use on a PS3. The larger files (MKV files over 4gb) convert fine and usually come out as two 2.2gb files and the aspect ratio is fine, they work amazingly.

I've started trying to convert these x264 video that are a lot smaller in size, usually about 1.5gb per MKV file. The process of converting appears to work fine, however when I play the MP4 file on the PS3 the image is heavily squashed, the majority of the screen is black with a thin strip across the centre of the screen which is the movie but squashed. I've tried 3 x264 MKV files. Two of them have ended up so squashed you can barely see the images, One of them actually stretched the image vertically, so people and faces appear too tall. I thought I was being clever as the MKV file size is much much smaller, but I've had nothing but hassle.

What the frig am I doing wrong? I apologise if this is the n00biest thing you've ever read but I needed an answer!!! Also...I have a movie (one of my favorites), it's a high definition 4.2gb MKV file, when I try and convert it on GotSent it says something like 'This file cannot be played on a PS3 or 360, setting output format to compatible one' or something. It then makes an MPEG2 version of the film that isn't High Def, is there another program I can use to convert this file????

    Cheers.

EDIT: Just checking out the other threads and have realised...should I be converting to MP4??? What file format would you guys recommend I convert to?

Ok I didnt do the research, I'll try that MKV TO VOB thing, didnt realise PS3 played VOB files.

Does the image look okey if you play the mp4 on your computer?

I would try the mkv2vob or xvid4psp(Use the PS3 Profile).

Cheers, will give them a go. Out of interest, is this VOB format pretty much similar to MP4 or is it a smaller filesize generally? Thanks.

My PC can barely handle playing High Def MP4 files so to be honest I haven't tried the 3 corrupt MP4 files that I mentioned. Will give those programs a go, sure they'll work fine. I just prefered GOTSent as it was a One Click Convert type thing, very easy. Are the other programs like that or is there a lot of tweaking to do?????

    Many thanks.
Awesome name by the way, love Blackadder.

I don't use GOTSent, but I do use mkv2Vob and Xvid4PSP or Megui if need to convert to .mp4....use the xbox/PS3 profiles as recommended
Keep in mind not all will work with mkv2Vob,hence why you'll need to re-encode video to comply with either the PS3 or the Xbox360 playable formats...
If streaming .vob to the PS3,there's no need to worry about file size, unless of course HDD space is your concern...And if your PC specs are correct,I'd suggest upgrading your CPU and HDD...Heck I need to upgrade mine!...
