problem converting mpg/mpeg files to vcd using nero

basically I have 4 music videos my friend downloaded for me which have either mpeg or mpg extensions and I'm trying to burn them in vcd format to play on my dvd player

they run fine in windows media player however when I try and burn them in Nero, after I drag and drop, 3 of the files don't have a duration time in the nero window (they do when played in media player) which means that when I burn the vcd, I only get the one file, and thats as long as I put it on first, the dvd player freezes at the other files

I tried selecting make a standard compliant disc in nero but it just told me the files weren't compliant and to go and convert them myself

I have tried MPEG-CORRECTOR and TMPEG to create new mpeg files but nothing has helped. Also in Nero when I right click the files I've dropped in the properties it says standard compliant NO and theres no duration for the file either

does this sound familiar? all help greatly appreciated

update - just realised when I re-read the nero tutorial I was using an out of date version, 5.0.38 am downloading the 5.5+ demo and will try it but any other help is appreciated
