sony nightshot - convert to color?!

Hello all! I need some advice in trying to convert our wedding video that was mistakingly shot with the sony nightshot plus. What (if any) video editing software will do the job? How difficult will it be?

The camera is DCR-SR42.

Any help is greatly appreciated!

Very difficult. What you have is mostly monochrome video. The green can be removerd with a secondary color corrector.

Post some frames and we can give it a try.

If all else fails, I've gotten away with converting a similar video to a sepia tint, adding old movie effects like scratches and flashes and made a border around the video to look like a picture frame. It came out sort of 'old timey' and looked like it was planned that way as an effect. 8)

I haven't used a Sony camcorder with nightshot. I know that in nightshot mode an IR source on the camera supplies the lighting and the resultant video is green. But I'm curious; if there is a reasonable amount of ambient light, is the video still green? That is, when the camera is in night shot mode is the camera essentially in IR mode and the color of the video is green regardless of the amount of ambient light?

I recall that some color comes through if shot in normal light. I'd have to charge up my Digital8 cam to try it.

PS: Paris Hilton aside, the best application I've found for NiteShot is finding an escaped cat at night. The IR light reflects off their retnas. Looks like headlights.

I tried it a while back and I used a vectorscope to try to center the chroma (i.e., to correct the white balance) but it didn't help at all.

Yes, but how would someone not notice it's using that mode? If you use it during the day the picture in viewfinder is washed out.
