We have transferred hundreds of VHS-C tapes with excellent results using VHS-C adapters. We use the manual ones, not the self-loading ones that take batteries.

Lordsmurf, while I bow to your lengthy experience, I have myself done SCORES and SCORES of VHS-C -to-DVD transfers (using good quality Adapters, both auto-loading and manual), and NEVER ONCE has any tape been eaten or gotten caught/gummed up, etc. Of course, I check the quality of the tape before I ever do a run...
It's a good solution and shouldn't be discounted.
