What do you mean by:
can t get tmpg to work
What's the actual problem you get then? -
before i changed to xp when i loaded an avi file in tmpg to convert to mpeg it worked fine ..but now a message comes up when i start encode ..lord of the rings.mpg cannot convert

I am running WinXP and TMPGEnc just fine. Maybe your avi file is a divx, and you need to install the codec?
-
Is it the exact same version of TMPGEnc? I've had some newer versions fail to load some avi files, and found that older versions loaded them ok.

I might be worth giving this ago.
Go into the 'Option' - 'Environmental Settings' - 'VFAPI Plug-In', right click 'DirectShow Multimedia File Reader' and select 'Higher Priority'. Now retry your AVI file. -
cheers mate i`ll give it a try..ive downloaded panasonic mpeg encoder it seems to be working ...who needs pc sssssssssssssss

I had the exact same problem (with a clean install of WinXP).
Firstly, make sure that the AVI file really is in DivX format.
If it is, download/install the DivX 3.11 version of the codec. Although DivX 4 can play v3.11 AVIs, TMPGEnc did not recognise the AVI file when I only had the latest DivX codec installed. Panasonic did.
Otherwise, you should download the AngelPotion collection of codecs (BE WARNED, my DVD drive could not read any CDs after I installed all these codecs and a few other multimedia programs, but I'm still not sure which codec or program was the culprit). I've uninstalled all of them and my DVD drive works fine now!
The lesson from this. I remembered all the old junk I downloaded onto my old computer just to get things working. -
cheers mate i`ll give it a try.ive started using panasonic mpeg encoder which works pretty good see what happens
