    Hello,

I want to convert some .mkv movies to .mp4 to watch on my iphone.
For this I use mkvtools. Problem is that I don't know where the program saves the converted files.
    Does anyone know this?

The files will be created in the same folder as the video(s) that you are processing. They'll have the same file name as the original videos, but with an mp4 extension.

hi, i guess i'm having the same problem. i converted an mkv to an mpeg (took around 10 hours, i think?), and the program notified me that the conversion was complete, but there was no additional file in the same folder that the mkv file is located, nor could i find the mpeg file anywhere on my computer.

is it possible i chose the wrong settings? the mkv file i'm trying to convert does have subs, which i want to embed.

XVID4PSP is perhaps an odd name for a program but this program is designed to work with a variety of formats and containers. I've used it to convert MKV files to MP4 or M2TS for playback on my Sony PS3 gaming console.

It can also convert to MPEG-2 DVD Video format.

I'd give it a try as it is very easy-to-use and seems to install everything you will need software wise including external freeware programs needed to demux MKV and mux MP4 etc.

i checked out that program, and it does seem pretty cool. thing is, i'm on a mac, and it looks like it only works for PC. thanks for the recommendation, though. i'll remember the name for my windows friends.^^

Sorry ... didn't realize this was posted in the MAC section. I got to it from the "main page".

My mistake ... or was it YOUR mistake for buying a MAC?

OK OK OK we won't get into that argument LOL :P

    john old friend.....

as for the OP, what I do is a two step process,
first I use enGumm's tool [MoKgVm2DVD] and burn in my subs
in my mkv to convert to a vaild xvid file.

then once I have the playable xvid with burnt in subs,
I drag and drop that onto Visual Hub, set for iPod 5thGen,
and let it go. works in realtime this way, and VH likes to
process xvids better than mkvs ( less hang ups).

It's a little work, but the results are great.....

    Hi army_kitten (and acamphuis)!
If their is no output file, then there was some error in the processing by one of the tools (i.e., UNIX applications) controlled by MKVtools. For example, the version of mencoder used my MKVtools can't decode DTS audio, which would result in an error and no output file. The newest beta of MKV tools does a little better at warning of potential problems and errors. The best practice would be to check the "keep logs" option in the help menu. These log files are where you would find any error messages from the "tools" controlled by MKVtools, and might help explain what happened.
