Let me start by explaining my setup.
I have a Sony 47" - 1080p tv with two HDMI inputs. One of the HDMI input also has provision for composite audio in case of the source being a DVI. I also have DELL quad core desktop with ATI Radeon 2600xt graphics card. The radeon has a DVI out.
I use a DVI to HDMI cable for connecting my Dell to my Sony. However because of the HDMI end the the TV blocks the audio in the composite. The HDMI overrides the audio provided to the composite input.

End result I cannot get sound from my Dell into my Sony.

    Please suggest.

Have you checked the audio settings in the sony if you can't disable hdmi audio and just enable composite?
