How do you reset the password on the dlink di series routers?

So how do you reset the password on the dlink DI series wireless routers?

I have a dlink di524 wireless G router. I have tried setting it up in another location and now I want to return it to its original location. However I can't access the setup screen. I have used the hard reset several times (the reset button is pressed with a paper clip and all the lights flash simultaneously and reset) but no luck.

I have tried using my original password but it is invalid. I am trying to use admin as the user name and I leave it blank but I still can't get access.

Suggestions are welcome. Thanks.

The original password would have worked BEFORE the reset, if you knew that, why reset it?

Their website or the manual will give the default password, It is usually Admin for the user name and either "password", "admin", or blank for the password. One variation on this is blank for the user name, and "admin" for the password.

I'd look it up for you but I don't have a router I need to reset.

I got this off the net, it resets the router to default which means you lose all settings but if you've forgotten the password its the only way I know (I've had to do this to my netgear a few times) hope it helps

The following is for the DI-514, DI-524, DI-604, DI-614+, DI-624, DI-624S, DI-754, DI-764, DI-774, and DI-784 routers.

To perform a reset, please follow steps below:

Step 1 With the unit on, place a paper clip into the hole on the back on the unit labeled Reset.

Step 2 Hold paper clip down for 10 seconds and release.

Note: Do not repower unit during this procedure.

Step 3 The unit will reboot on its own. Once the WLAN light stops blinking, the unit is reset.

Resetting the router does not reset the firmware to an earlier version. It will change all settings back to factory defaults.

If you have the European version of this router, this procedure may not work. Please consult the D-Link office near you. D-Link USA does not support the European version.

Well back to this. I have reinstalled my old dlink di524 router since I'm having issues with my netgear rangemax router.

I"m finally back online with the dlink router. However I never did get the password back again.

I looked it up and the default is supposed to be admin and nothing in the password line. However I can't log back in.

Is there a way to hack back into your router? I want to get back to the config page - you know the 192.1.xxx.xxx. screen page. Thanks.

Second variation on the reset is to hold the button for 20-30 seconds, try first with power on, test, again with power off, test, a third time holding reset button while powering on. It would appear from talking to tech support that the suggested 10-second time is just not long enough, as they emphasized the increased time far more than the unit's power state when resetting.

Are you getting the router login page when you go to the gateway address? If you get nothing at all, then you have the wrong address. Do an IPconfig /all at the command prompt and use the address listed for Gateway.

It's simply the reset button on the back as noted above. You then have to access it from the default IP....which isn't 192.168.1.1 (like LinkSys), I think it is 192.168.0.1 (I just went through this myself).

EDIT: according to the manual (pages 11-12). 192.168.0.1 login: admin password: "blank"

I've had the same problem with one of my D-link routers. Hold the reset button down for a minute or so and see if that works. I finally gave up on mine as something must have failed internally. I even took it apart and physically shorted the reset switch contacts and still nothing. I use it for a switch now. Never could get access to the menu. And I would also try a different power supply as the ones from D-link are flaky and may contribute to the problem. If it still doesn't work consider replacing it.

And fyi I have gotten the login prompt so I know I have the access page right.
