yes, good point, you can tell Nero isn't as optimized as VLC for instance, at least on my old PC, but I did do these tests with my PS3. No "strobing" on your AVC encoded files (I used FILM HD/720/5, HDTV/1080//11) ? Are you applying some type of deinterlacing somewhere in the process ?
I saw an ad for TMPGeng v3 Editor here, only MPEG2 I think though.

Again, sorry if I'm not helpful here, but I haven't converted any files for playing on the PS3 via Nero.
I have:
(1) played AVCHD .m2ts files directly from a portable HDD on the PS3; this is the NATIVE format my camcorder records in
(2) played AVCHD DVDs on the PS3 (created by the Sony software that came with the camera); again, there's no conversion going on here from what my camera recorded
(3) used Pinnacle Studio 11 Ultimate to make a Blu-Ray disc, and for that, it definitely seemed like a conversion of some kind took place, but I think it was from AVCHD to HD-MPEG2. It played fine, though it took forever to encode so I'll not go that route again. -
Ok, sorry I thought you were starting from HDV .m2ts files as I am with my HC3E.
So it seems there are issues going from HDV to AVCHD using the Nero AVCHD profiles 720 and 1080. There is a BR AVCHD profile but it says I don't have the proper plugin, probably a limitation of the trial software.
Probably need to start an HDV to AVCHD thread actually
